Yeeeeea Whama, Hudson yards is my favorite project too... And these toweres will compliment hudson yards nicely. Especially 10 hy and 30 hy because you know... They are both offsetting sibling towers.

Moving the Garden to the Morgan Post Office would dramatically change this area for the better. I hope Dolan considers it.

Read article in link & lots more renders:
Moving the Garden Would Pave the Way for a New Penn Station

Quote:
A group of architects and city planners unveiled the next phase of research (and, of course, shiny new visualizations) in a 42-page report that details their quest to drastically improve the city's grossest transit, massively overcrowded hub by 2023. Their conclusion? That, in an ideal world, the Garden would relocate to the Morgan postal facility between 28th and 31st streets and Ninth and Tenth avenues.

I think something like will ultimately happen with MSG, and I hope the ownership embraces it. Having a new Garden that directly abuts Manhattan West, the main Hudson Yards cluster and plaza, and connects right to the High Line would be a dream.

I agree guys. MSG moving would open up a new frontier for development for some very tall buildings. Possibly, the concept of the Gotham Spire could become a reality.

Also, don’t forget 15 Penn that would be rising just east of this picture below.

Edit never mind, I know what MSG is

So basically if they move the gardens to the new location, the current site and area of MSG could be redeveloped into a new district like Hudson Yards, which would help to link HY up more with the main Midtown core?

Sounds pretty good to me!

This ugly piece of shet of a clunker. MSG is Madison Square Garden.

I know the City council and the Mayor, even Mayor Bloomberg would have loved the Dolans to agree to this. ANY chance of that happening? If it does, while it might not reach the kind of stratospheric improvement the report visualizes, things can be SO much better and the whole midtown-West Side integration will be a lot easier and smoother! I have to say that would be one beautiful Madison Square Garden rather than today's dreary MSG/Penn Plaza complex.

If I'm not mistaken, the City gave the Dolans a 10 year lease extension, rather than the perpetual one they were angling for, effectively putting a 10-year deadline on finding a new home for MSG. Obviously, sometime in the next 10 years, the Dolans could convince the City to let them keep MSG where it is, but at present, the political will seems to be there. It would just be better for all concerned if the Dolans agreed on a plan rather than the City forcing a move.

That tower, or something like it, could potentially dwarf its neighbors at Manhattan West (as well as Hudson Yards, ESB, and Penn Plaza. I think it's actually the perfect location for a new focal-point tower for Manhattan to take the mantle from ESB, especially since it would rise above the new supertall plateau growing on Far West Side.

1 Manhattan West is getting an anchor tenant!!!

Skadden Makes A Major Move
http://abovethelaw.com/2014/10/lawye...-a-major-move/

Quote:
Biglaw is getting less big when it comes to office space. As we recently mentioned, law firms are spending less on their real estate. They’re renting smaller spaces, often outside the central downtown areas they’ve traditionally favored. As the American Lawyer put it, “[a]s a result of tightening market conditions, some firms are gravitating to ‘unorthodox’ locations in areas right outside the central districts they usually prefer.”

Consider the move that Skadden Arps just announced for its Manhattan headquarters. It’s going to an area that is certainly “unorthodox,” perhaps downright icky….

From the firm-wide announcement issued yesterday by executive partner Eric Friedman

Quote:
We are pleased to inform you that the Firm has signed a Letter of Intent for a 20-year lease at Brookfield Properties’ Manhattan West development. Our new, state-of-the-art building, 1 Manhattan West, will be built at Ninth Avenue and 33rd Street, which is part of what we believe will be the most exciting new neighborhood in the city.
Quote:
We look forward to being a part of the ongoing evolution of Manhattan’s west side. Our move is targeted for Spring of 2020. We will provide additional information as the relocation process continues.
Skadden’s move isn’t a huge shock to people who have been following the situation. Rumors have been swirling about for months now (and have turned out to be true, as is so often the case).

Some might express dismay at the prospective of Skaddenites no longer sharing quarters with the cool kids at Conde Nast. But that was going to happen even if Skadden stayed put; the Conde Nasties are moving to 1 World Trade Center in 2015. (The Conde and Skadden moves are not good news for the Durst Organization, which owns 4 Times Square.)

What do Skadden folks think of the move? One lawyer we heard from expressed enthusiasm: “Ooooh, shiny new things!” And, as a practical matter, good access to the Lincoln Tunnel and Penn Station for Skaddenites who live in New Jersey. For many other Skadden people — like the patent lawyer whose Upper West Side housing hunt we recently covered — the commute won’t change very much.

Congratulations to Skadden on its exciting new offices. We’re confident that they will be very funky — in a good way.

Now the rental tower has financing and office tower #1 has a tenant.

Bank of China Backing Big NY Rental Project

"... Brookfield Properties plans to use proceeds from the municipal-bond issue to build a 64-story tower with 790 units, as part of its Manhattan West mixed-use project. The agreement with Bank of China will provide credit enhancement for the bonds. The deal is expected to close in conjunction with the sale of the securities, probably sometime next month.

The apartment building, at 401 West 31st Street, likely will be the first component to be completed at Manhattan West. Brookfield plans a 7 million-square-foot complex encompassing several office and residential buildings, retail space and parkland, constructed on a massive platform over rail lines spanning West 31st and West 33rd Streets at Ninth Avenue…"

1 Manhattan west is the North Tower, which was slated to be the shorter of the two in earlier renderings.
The one on the left.
