The shorter tower is 1004 ft. Skadden is taking around 600k square feet, supposedly.

Nice! Where did you hear that the North Tower was 1,004ft?

But this is fantastic news! Glad we finally have this development properly underway now! When could the tower start foundations and rising?

I've got a feeling that the towers designs will be pretty much the same as to what we've already seen

I honestly thought we'd be waiting years and years for this to start!

New York seams to pull in a mega deal every week!

Manhattan West & Skadden Arps...AWESOME!!!

Always thought that the Manhattan West project was more favorable then what several people on this site were saying for years...that MW was an afterthought to the Hudson yards project and it would take years and years for these buildings to go forward.

NYC...YESSSS!!!

I haven't seen any further confirmations from anyone (Brookfield, Skadden, other media) which leads me to be skeptical but I guess we'll find out more in due time.

I can confirm from a close friend of mine who is an attorney at Skadden that they did indeed send that email out. There's no way the managing partner of Skadden would send something like that to all personnel without it being a done deal.

The Related's HY towers filled more quickly than anyone expected, and it appears that JPMC will take Related's sites between 33rd and 34th Streets.

I would not be surprised if Tishman and Moinian are negotiating with tenants too.

It is amazing how a "city" with many supertalls is springing up overnight in what currently looks like a wasteland.

Skadden to Move Headquarters to Manhattan’s Far West Side

Quote:
Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom LLP signed a letter of intent to move its New York headquarters to a skyscraper to be built at Manhattan West, a development by Brookfield Property Partners LP (BPY-U) on the far west side.

The law firm is the first tenant to sign on at the site, where two office towers are planned. Skadden will occupy space in 1 Manhattan West, a spokeswoman for the company said. That building is described on the project’s website as a 67-story, 2 million-square-foot (186,000-square-meter) skyscraper.

Manhattan West, at about 7 million square feet, is the smaller of two major sites under construction between Penn Station and the Hudson River as the city extends its Midtown business district to the west. Related Cos. is also building Hudson Yards, a $20 billion project that has attracted Time Warner Inc. and Coach Inc. as occupants.

Skadden is moving from 4 Times Square, a tower built by the Durst Organization in the late 1990s, where it occupies about 826,000 square feet under a lease that runs out in 2020, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. Melissa Coley, a Brookfield spokeswoman, declined to comment. A call after regular business hours yesterday to Jordan Barowitz, a spokesman for Durst, wasn’t immediately returned.

glad to see brookfield joining the game of big leases in this area of midtown, now the MSG area needs to join in to fill the void between MW and the rest of midtown.

Well it's a snowball effect isn't it?

When the whole area is a rundown railyard, only the most bulletproof of businesses can afford the move. So they're the earliest to sign on. But once the buildings start actually rising, you get more and more people interested in the area and their interest sparks more interest and so on.

I think by the time Brookfield West and HY are finished (as in, their current proposals are all topped out) there will be a dozen new proposals in the area, piggybacking off the increased prestige of the district.

So I think getting the MSG area to fill in will be more of an inevitability. It'll be the most definitive col in any world city. Begging for massive development.

True. The Hudson Yards area is hot and as I expected, the momentum will be growing once the first tenants have signed.

That building behind it reminds me of the old Penn Station

That's no coincidence. That's the Farley Post Office, which was built in 1912 and designed to match the monumental nature of the original Penn. You should see the other side of the building on 8th Ave, much more impressive. There are plans to turn part of it into a Penn Station extension of sorts, called Moynihan Station.

Looks like just one span to go!

Are they extending the platform further to the south or are they just building a retaining wall against the tracks?

I look forward to seeing more new supertalls in this stunning image.

P.S.: The hills of Westchester and Connecticut look great.
