The impenetrable walls that previously blocked all views of the site now have the little windows. Excavation is occurring now for BOTH towers and the residential tower.

Just to repeat:

Skadden Signs 550,000 Square-Foot Lease at 1 Manhattan West

Quote:
April 15, 2015 By Reid Wilson

The Real Deal reports that law firm Skadden has signed a 20-year lease for 550,000 square feet at Brookfield Property Partners’ 1 Manhattan West, located at 401 9th Avenue, on the West Side. Construction will begin immediately on the 69-story, 2.1-million square-foot office tower, and opening is scheduled for 2019.

This is indeed a sign of the power of Brookfield in the marketplace. If News Corp goes downtown, Related will need redouble its efforts over at Hudson Yards...

This must be the most quiet supertall u/c I can think of.
Simple design but I like the twin tower concept. It will be a great addition to the HY area.

Iagree, but I would still prefer the previous version with 2 different heights.

That would have been nice I agree but I still think two 303 meter twins are certainly a nice addition.

two 370 meter twins would have been cooler of course

Agreed, but it can still be in the cards. It depends how much space a prospective anchor would take for MW 2 imo. I'd say ~ 800k - 1msf could do it.

Per Bloomberg article last week.

Brookfield also is talking to a second law firm about renting space in the 2 million-square-foot tower, he said.
It just occurred to me that the 2nd law firm could be Fried Frank which is looking to lease + 400k sf which was reported a couple of months ago.

This would be coup for Brookfield. Potentially, Brookfield could soon have 1 msf secured out of the 2 msf 1 Manhattan West tower slated to rise.

Brookfield to start Manhattan West tower after signing anchor tenant

Brookfield Property Partners said it will start building its 1 Manhattan West office tower, after signing a lease with the law firm Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP for about a quarter of the skyscraper.

The agreement, announced Tuesday in a statement by New York-based Brookfield, jump-starts office construction at the seven-million-square-foot Manhattan West project, part of an effort to draw the Midtown business district west toward toward the Hudson River.

...

The Skadden law firm agreed to a 20-year lease for 550,000 square feet on floors 28 to 43 of the 67-storey tower, a Brookfield news release said. The building will be the first of two planned commercial buildings to be built at Brookfield’s five-acre development, Manhattan West.

...

Wells Fargo Bank, N.A., Deutsche Bank AG New York Branch, The Bank of New York Mellon, and The Toronto-Dominion Bank are co-leading $1.25-billion (U.S.) in construction financing for the tower, Brookfield said. Brookfield is investing $850-million in the project, bringing the total cost to $2.1-billion.

It's still the same today. Brookfield will probably build the second tower by market demand, whether it be shorter or taller. Hopefully the latter. CTBUH says Tower 2 will be over 3M sqft GFA - compared to Tower 1's 1.8M sqft GFA, though that's probably an old figure.

$1.25bn financing backs Manhattan West office tower

Quote:
A consortium of banks is providing $1.25bn in financing to Brookfield Property Partners for the construction of a 2.1m sq ft office tower at the
Manhattan West development.
Quote:
Wells Fargo, Deutsche Bank, Bank of New York Mellon and Toronto-Dominion Bank are co-leading the $1.25bn construction financing, which combined with a $850m equity contribution from Brookfield brings the office tower’s total cost to $2.1bn.

Construction is underway at the tower, One Manhattan West, located at the southwest corner of Ninth Avenue and 33rd Street.

Brookfield moved forward with plans after anchor tenant and law firm Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom agreed to a 20-year, 550,000 sq ft lease to occupy floors 28 to 43.

The building is the first of two planned office towers (the other being Two Manhattan West) at the five-acre, $4.5bn Manhattan West development. The development will also include a residential building, retail space, rooftop gardens, dining options and a two-acre public park.

Construction began in January on the residential portion: a 62-story, 844-unit luxury tower.

Manhattan West is located one block west of Penn Station and at the entrance of the Hudson Yards district.

If the glass on these is anything like 50 West Street with the curves; these towers will look beautiful!

Looking at this, I'm confident they will be as good as that.
The only lesser part of this is the technical floor just above the ground floor.
