360 degree aerial of the Quays
Well finally after what seems like an age I've managed to get an aerial from my kite set up. Acceptable?? not really but hopefully if I can get down in better weather with some assistance I might improve. Anyway enjoy. The image here is just a section. Use the link to see 360. You can also double click the panorama and it will open full screen, just use esc or double click it again to close it.

The second photo looks like a very tiny planet! With two superpowers - Trafford and Salford...
Anyway, excellent work. Love the 360 control photo thingy.

Thanks MP.
It was a funny old flying day. I'm limited for obvious reasons in the height at which I can fly. There are two airports very close to the flying site. In addition I have to be very aware of Police/Emergency helicopter flights. I have to apply for a permit from the CAA and they impose conditions on me. In this case one of those conditions is that I have to inform Barton that I am about to fly and contact them once flying has finished. Its all very friendly and not at all officious as some might think. But it is a serious business nevertheless. Such procedures are very easy to cope with and they do make the skies a very safe environment for those that use them. If I get refused there is always a valid reason. If you look at the circular image you can see that I have only just cleared the tower cranes. This means that while the kite was at nearly 400' the camera was in fact just over 200'. I also have to abide by horizontal clearance distances just like any other aircraft, there is a lot to handle but its great fun especially when you get a result. Flying was cut short, I wanted to change rigs and take some conventional photos but while flying the wind speed picked up and the whole rig became too unmanageable. The kite is over 14' in span and generates a great deal of lift. |
