Canterbury and South-East Kent

Canterbury

Much of the city walls and one of the city gates remain.

The city is the seat of the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Primate of All England, head of the Church of England and of the worldwide Anglican Communion. Thomas Becket was murdered in Canterbury Cathedral; King Henry IV was buried along with the Edward the Black Prince. Geoffery Chaucer wrote the Canterbury Tales about a group of people travelling from London to Canterbury. This literary heritage was continued with Christopher Marlowe who was born here.

Last year I discovered one of the nicest places to live. I have stayed for a short time in Canterbury, at South-East of Kent (England). Those are some photos taken in Cantebury, a city plenty of architecture and history heritage, friendly people, and really good services and shops.

That's the way I arrived to Canterbury

Great pictures! I love Canterbury - first English city I visited as a school exchange in 86! Only nicest memories, one of the greatest times of my life! And as it seems not so much changed since my last stay 10 years ago

Nice pictures! I guess for those who consider themselves fans of psychedelic and progressive rock, Canterbury and Kent should ring the bell You know, Canterbury Scene - Egg, Soft Machine, Caravan, Gong, etc...

Look lovely. On that wikipedia link, there is a photo of people punting on the river. Is this common like in Cambridge or was that a one off?

I have to visit it some time. How long is the train ride from London?
