The Rotunda l BIRMINGHAM l 81m l 23fl
The Rotunda
Birmingham, UK HEIGHT: 81m/265 feet FLOORS: 23 floors COMPLETION: 1965 ARCHITECT: ? Not the prettiest of towers, but a landmark in Brum. Soon to be done up, with ideas being banded round for turning it into apartments, recaldding it and maybe even adding extra stories. The Rotunda was built in the 1960's and opened in 1965. It stands 265ft (81m) tall with 23 floors overlooking the Bull Ring shopping Centre. It is one of Birmingham's most prominent and original landmarks and has even survived a bombing in 1974. In 1993 it survived the threat of demolition as part of a proposed facelift of the Bull Ring markets. The Rotunda was Grade II listed by English Heritage in August 2000 and has official landmark status. Be kind to our baby. Last edited by ZZ-II; October 26th, 2008 at 07:53 PM. |

The future of the Rotunda?
The foreground is now built, St Martin's Square in the new Bullring which opened last Thursday. We're waiting for news on the Rotunda now. |

Certainly not the greatest building in the world but Brum just wouldn't be the same without it. With a sympathetic reclad it should look pretty good with the BullRing.

Well it's certainly got character. And the height isn't bad for Birmingham.
It definitely needs a reclad though. I'll give a generous 7.5. |
