AMAZING SAO PAULO´S OLD CENTRE!

This thread is about Sao Paulo´s old centre.

Săo Paulo was founded by the Jesuits in 1554, on a plateau 2,493 feet (760 meters) above sea level, but only 45 miles (72 km) from the coast, as a mission center for early settlers and the indians who inhabited the area. For a long time it remained a small town. Around 1850 it began to grow and became richer thanks to the highly productive coffee plantations in the state. Later on, the income from coffee exports and the increasing population provided capital and manpower for the foundation of an industrial base.

The city is the commercial, financial and industrial locomotive of Brasil. It generates almost 30% of the total GNP of the country which is roughly US$850 billion (9th largest economy of the world.)

It is one of the 5 world's largest metropolitan regions. It is a city of immigrants and ethnic neighbourhoods where almost 18 million people live, many of them descendants of Italian, Japanese, and Lebanese migrants.

Well, I hope you enjoy...

I assume these are your own photos, so will move this thread to the correct forum.

Truly a World Class city.

I love the energy that Sao Paulo has.

A hardworking , strong, masculine city.

Awesome pictures there! Despite the seven times I've been to Rio de Janeiro and Angra dos Reis, I still haven't quite managaed a trip down to Săo Paulo (connection flights don't count).

By the way, is that train station picture taken at the Luz Station?

Yes Mike. It was taken from Luz Station...

PS I am so sorry about pictures quality. I do confess that I am not a professional and I used a very cheap camera

Amazing, It mixes an European and a-lá New York style, which I adore. I wish so badly that Bogotá had kept its centre like that.
