Years ago the city had multiple opportunities to advance itself and rival Toronto, both in size and economic strength, but poor planning and shortsightedness kept it back.
Mass transit plans? Discussed but never materialized.
Down town office development? Discouraged do to height restrictions.
Expressway around the city? Took 25 years to build a four lane highway?
Sad, sad, sad.
My advise to all those fustrated Hamiltonians who get mad at the people who bash the city, is to get out of the city every now and again.
You are right,
Hamilton has flaws,

but the city itself and the people are not to blame.
The political climate is increadibly selfish and shortsighted.
25 years to build a highway???
(which still has no QEW to Redhill entrance).
This highway is so poorly designed that to enter the Redhill from
the west on the major roads, Barton, Queenston & King you must
turn left and cross the apposing traffic.
(unlike just about every other highway on-ramp in the world).
(This is causing tremendous traffic delays and very dangerous situations)
(any 4th grader could have seen this as yet another stupid plan!!)
Also Mount Albion road is closed (very dumb idea! especially if the Redhill
is blocked because of accidents) because of some land deal between the
city and some private citizen.
Like any other people who are led by Morons, the cure is not to run to
another city, (which is impossible to drive anyware at rush hour, and
is not a true city but a large suburb of Torornto!)
but to stay and try to make changes...

Maybe this project will shock the powers that be to stop thinking about
their own pockets and wakeup to develope downtown into a proper city centre.
(Maybe, just maybe the Lister block will be updated, developed or
replaced)

I'm surprised that Hamilton use to have a hockey team, but if they get one this time I'd prefer they be called the Pitbulls though. What do you think?
As for the Sapphire I definately hope they build it and many more supertalls.

Actually, my motives for leaving Hamilton were influenced by a desired to reduce a three and a half hour daily commute down to one.
Monthly GO pass savings - 130 dollars.
Driving time to downtown Toronto - 20 minutes.
Leaving behind a city run by morons - priceless.

Regarding Mississauga's status of a city...
The city of Mississauga was formed in 1974 by the amalgamation of a number of smaller towns within the region of peel. At no point was it ever designated as a official 'suburb' of Toronto. The fact that the boarder limits of Metro Toronto extend only as far as Etobicoke should be a clue. Mississauga also holds the distinction of being Canada's 6th largest city.

Considering Pitbulls are banned in Onario, probably not.

I've heard on UT that Harry still lurks around downtown Toronto. Someone saw him in Church St. Starbucks I believe. I think he's pretending he lives in Hamilton. Maybe this is all a joke all over again.

Wonder if he's sold any units yet.

Who makes the signage? It looks like work done by an elementary school student.

On June 2, 2008, Harry Stinson makes a public presentation of his proposed 100-storey Connaught Towers at the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce building. It would have made it the tallest building in Canada.[6][7][8] Three months later, on Thursday September 4, Harry Stinson closed up the Connaught Towers sales office in downtown Hamilton and the project is officially cancelled.

WOW it was rejected a while ago.
