Lübeck - The Queen of the Hanseatic leauge

Lübeck is so to say the mother of the typical zigzag gabeld houses in nothern Europe out of Brickstone. It became the brickstonegothic that was largely an import from fracne (gothic) but made in the local way (brickstone) In comparisson to its french counterparts, the brickstone churches has an langauge of its own. Interresting is that Lübeck older parts have to different faces: the facades the faces the street are typical gable houses. Behind these facades there are maze of small alleys with cross-timerd houses. Just like Rostock Lübeck was hit in the second world war and 30 percent of the old town burnt up. Still today you could enjoy thousands of historic buildings. It has also become unesco-world heritage.

I just love Lübeck! It's nothing but magic, especially around christmas time - probably the best place to spend some days at this season around our Baltic coast there. Lübeck has so much great historical heritage, you can find these charming backyards everywhere.
And this might be your best photo thread so far - looks like your skills gained while traveling around Northern Germany

But could you please edit the opening post and fix those code failures? Would'nt take too much time eh

Thanks for the tour!

Nice pictures. I had read a brief history about the Hanseatic League and about Lubeck recently, and it sounded like a nice town. It looks good.

Lübeck! Only a stones throw from Hamburg and such a charming place. I can't wait to visit when I'm next in the area. I'll have to try to direct my friend up there when he's in Hamburg for Wacken.

The older parts of Lübeck is really nice. The small alleys are nice to walk around with their colourful houses. Still, you need a map to find them since their all hinden behind small doors. So if you are not carefull you will miss out a lot of the charm of Lübeck.
