We finally had some nice weather over here so I went for another walk trough town.

This neighbourhood is located roughly between central station and the old harbour in the north, not to far from the historic center.

wow, what a great looking city. Cool shots.
And what a unique type of architecture. Parts almost feel quite Victorian English but with a French twist

And here we have the Antwerp Zoo.

Dating back to 1843 this is one of the older existing zoo's and there's still remains a lot of architecture from the 19th century. At the time it was founded it stood on the edge of town but the city grew rapidly and now it's practically in the citycentre. Because of this it never really had a chance to grow and as way of creating space they created several animal shelters in layers atop of each other along the edges. It still is a bit short of space so a lot the bigger animals have been or will be moved to a second park with a lot more space near the city of Mechelen.

Timon

and Pumbaa

The egyptian temple dates from the 1850's and is the oldest remaining part of the zoo

And right next door to the zoo we find the central station.

A piece of (mostly) interbellum Antwerp now. This neighbourhood was developed after the worldfair of 1930.

But there's some architecture from the sixties as well.

The house Guiette by Le Corbusier.

There's also a nice belle epoque neighbourhood nearby.

Nice update, thanks!

This is one of my all time favourites in Antwerp. The AXA-tower from architect Léon Stijnen. It looks as good as it was after construction, almost 50 years ago!
