At first I thought this was about Emma Peel, but no.

Trafford centre, horse racecourse, golf course, new airport.

All peel creations and none has tremendous public transport links. (Now come on who really enjoys going to the TC on the bus?)

And Peel dont like the C charge. Erm?!

Although I'm generally very keen for Metrolink expansions and agree that a company like Peel should provide some funding for transport improvements especially ones which would take vast numbers of traffic off the road, I don't think Metrolink would service the areas other than the T centre and Media city very well.

The airport expansion is planned primarily for executives and others with access to private jets (unless I'm mistaken) and will be both low level numbers and generally ones to prefer private transport. If the Metro was extended to the Salford Reds stadium on the way, which is on route the case would be better but when the line will only be in strong demand for only part of 1 day a week and have the cost of crossing the motorway and the ship canal, is it worth the money?

The golf course and racecourse are even futher out and would have even higher costs to extend to, and the racecourse would surely only be popular once a week during the racing season? (My knowledge on racing is v poor).

Although I would love all the attractions across the city region to be connected by easy frequent metrolink services; for value for money to the tax payer, I think these extensions will be unlikely to occur especially when there are many other routes with much higher regular demand.

When I said I would not come back to them, I lied.

Someone I was talking to over the weekend highlighted some very unplesant activities that Peel have been up to that could affect how TIF is decided.

They have too much power, and are willing to use it as they like, so long as they get what they want.

More details in the media soon hopefully.

^Don't expect the MEN to cover it, they're in Peel's pocket.

From today's MEN

Quote:
Ryder Cup plans get backing
Mike Keegan
10/ 3/2008

PLANS to host golf's Ryder Cup in Salford have been given a thumbs up by former Europe captain Mark James.

As revealed in Saturday's M.E.N, Peel Holdings, the company behind the Trafford Centre, have set their sights on bringing the event to the city.

And Manchester-born Mark said the bid for golf's greatest tournament `could only be a good thing' for the region. He said: "I'm guessing Tiger Woods has never played golf in Salford! However, if he ever did he would find the people down-to-earth and committed fans."

Mark, who played in seven Ryder Cups from 1977 to 1995 and captained the team at Brookline in 1999, said the proposed Salford Forest Park course would have to build up a good reputation before it could bid.

He said: "If it's a great course it would be a great idea but I wouldn't know until I've played on it. I would have thought it would need to host some form of European tour event first."

Venues for the Ryder Cup, held between Europe and the US every two years, have been announced up to 2020. The tournament attracts huge TV audiences across the globe.

Some users of the M.E.N.'s website reacted with disbelief to the news.

`Colin Bell was class' wrote: "As if you can get the Ryder Cup in Salford! There is a waiting list of dozens of courses throughout Europe wanting to host the event let alone a course which has yet to be built in a city with no golfing heritage!"

Those comments were echoed by `Hook line and sinker' who described the idea that Salford could host the event as `plain daft'.

Others welcomed the news. `Greeny' described the plans as `fantastic'. He added: "What a scoop this would be!" And Steve Pottage said: "An excellent idea Peel. Real positive thinking."

Proposals for the course are awaiting planning permission. The development would be part of a leisure park alongside a horse-racing track, 6,000 seat grandstand and hotel. A clubhouse and practice ground is planned for the north side of the Bridgewater Canal.

A council source said: "The Ryder Cup is something Peel want for the course. If it was anybody else I would say it was a crazy idea - but it is Peel."

An animal rights group is urging golf authorities to take action against American professional Tripp Isenhour for killing a hawk because it was making a noise as he filmed a TV show at his Florida home.

Isenhour, 39, has apologised saying he was `mortified' that his 75 yard shot hit the bird on the head. He has been charged with cruelty to animals and killing a migratory bird - but the US Humane Society wants the Professional Golfers' Association to take action as well.

So the Peel/ MEN wankathon has come to an end.
Was the week long unpaid advert a trade off from the MEN because they knew that the dirty tricks story was on the horizon or was it a cynical attempt by Peel to soften their image up before they were revealed for the cunts they are.
Either way it stinks and both Peel and the MEN have gone down even lower down in my estimations (which weren't very high in the first place).

Let's hope it's not a Peel stitch up, courtesy of the BBC.(Mediacity)

BBC's Inside Out turns spotlight on Peel Holdings
12 August 2008, 12:26

The current affairs TV programme Inside Out is currently researching a film into the power of transport and property giant Peel Holdings.

The show is being made to coincide with the tenth anniversary of the opening of Peel's 1.4m sq ft Trafford Centre shopping mall in September.

Peel is helping with the making of the film and is due to meet with the Inside Out team, based in Manchester, later this week.

The scope of the show will be a broad-ranging look at the size and scale of the group's activities, from the Port of Liverpool, Manchester Ship Canal, Wirral and Liverpool Waters, Liverpool John Lennon Airport, Port of Salford, Salford Quays, Media City and beyond.

Peel, controlled by Bury-born billionaire John Whittaker, owns 28,000 acres and 9m sq ft of premises.

The BBC programme will also raise questions about Peel's political influence, examining its anti-congestion charge stance and often outspoken approach.

I didn't know throwing an egg at a tiger on £5.55 an hour would be breaking the law.
