Apparently drummers are a big controversy in some cities. Michigan Avenue in Chicago for example. The problem is that bucket drums carry a long, long distance, so it's distracting even 50 floors up or a block away.

I don't have drummers near me (and my new place will be on an alley), so it's not a personal issue. But I'd ban outdoor drums in most areas after 10:00. Of course we ought to have a few "party districts" where noise isn't as restricted, like First Ave from Yesler to SoDo for example, because every city needs some of that, and the loud stuff came before the current residents.

random off-topic post:

SSP just deleted the NY subforum---and the huge amount of content in it! They're now directing NY forumers, who have had years worth of contribution just deleted for no reason, to a compilation thread.

Really reminds of what they did to the Seattle forum (forcing the lame local format). The incompetence of the people in charge of that forum is really mind-boggling.

I think that SSP is dead. SSC has the best and most content, and Seattle has its own forum!

SSP finally has Seattle in its own forum without splintering, but it will take something to get it back from the dead.

On SSP I mostly look at the main forums -- City Compilations, City Discussions, and Photos. Of course they splintered the photos too but I ignore the less-active one.

Great aerial photo as usual. The white MD-80 appears to be retired from Alaska's fleet.
Wells Fargo appears to be the owner but I can't see who is leasing it.

Great work Seasun, I take it you were a big fan of the "bloodhound gang" on PBS in the early 80's??

Now if we can only figure out who registered those two tour buses with the flashing red and blue lights. I think I know where they are headed. I had to really look through my archives to find this next pic.

Monroe State Prison, which apparently is inescapable because it looks like they built a new High School right next door. I would not want to live in Monroe.

There is 17,000 people living next to that prison. I'm sure its ok. Its the largest prison in Washington with the new super cells.

I couldn't find the thread for the norman foster building on 4th and Cherry but the renderings in the design app are amazing:

I'll give you that the design app is great and the materials used look Fabulous,The plants also look like great choices. But again Foster+Partners did not design the public plaza. The Tower still is boring. The street access looks like a wall around the whole project. Does not look open except from city hall side. They could do better.

Thank You for sharing this PDF. Its great.

I wish the city would do something to improve the look of the sidewalks on the rest of the blocks in the area. They sure don't look too inviting. The plaza looks great now if they could be transfered to the streets beyond that would be great.

I read the whole thing, mostly, and tempered criticism of the designs by considering the massive hoops they've had to jump through. Imagine trying to build a skyscraper right smack in bureaucracyville. The designers had to come up with something shiny, but not too scary. It may end up looking like it belongs in Frankfurt. Anyone who whined got their pet thing added, I'm sure, although we will all appreciate the bike-ists freshening up in their expansive new digs. I have to ask members who might know better than I ... do planner/drawers/dreamers only live in Seattle in the summer? What is with all this watersaving!!? I would be glad to save as much as they could ever need from my leaky spouts in Dec-Jan.

Water saving is something rather simple to do, and it gives them a great image. Its also good on the environment. Now if they had put wind turbines on the roof, that would have been cutting edge for our water saving town.

Yeah, after 10 pm is probably a little ridiculous. One of the charms of cities though are the street performers, Phoenix has very little, as they bring something you don't get in the suburbs. Does that one guy still play his sax before the Mariners' games?
