great job Saudi Guy...you really bring so much energy to this forum...

as for the project i think it's too ambitious and would take decades to impliment.. but it's interesting and good to see some future planning indeed...

WOW..what a neat and well-planned proposal..I hope it gets approved, but i think they would have a huge problem with demolishing the surrounding buildings and compensating their owners...

Saudi Guy, you rock as always...

I'm afraid that after a couble of decades, what will be left from the original Makkah would be the Holy Haram (Al Ka'aba) and I think this should not happen.

I would have agreed with you, but expansion of the city and grand mosque is a reality we have to come to terms with.

The redevelopment is a good project, but why does everything in Mecca except for the Grand Mosque have to be removed for it? It will interfere with current construction projects in Mecca, including the Abraj al Bait towers. I absolutely do not want those towers demolished. I hate this project and I am going to oppose it if it becomes a real project. This is all just an absolute pipedream. The project looks like there is a Stalinist movement in Mecca and by "stalinist" I mean big projects are getting built. Please, Please cancel this god awful project, you Arabians.

Would be interesting. The area around Al-Haram (and Al-Haram itself due to the expansion) is in redevelopment mode.

Developing Makkah is neccessary, but I pray that those ugly towers around the 7aram are just a guess of what investors might build and not actually real, and don't think anything around the 7aram should be taller than the Minarets.
