I like the cladding. It does look boxy from some angles though. What does the shape of the plot look like?

LONDON | 1 Park Place | 200m | 45 fl | Pro

One Park Place, Canary Wharf

New 45 Storey Tower proposed for the Western end of the wharf, opposite Riverside South.

"McNamara planning 45-storey tower in London’s Canary Wharf

09 March 2008
By Neil Callanan
Property developer Bernard McNamara is planning to build a €500 million, 45-storey tower in Canary Wharf in London.

The building will be up to 200 metres in height, which would make it the second-tallest building in the city, according to reports in London. Two industry experts told The Sunday Business Post that the building could be worth €1.7 billion when fully let at market rents.

That valuation is based on a yield of 5 per cent, which is standard for the area. The building is to be developed near Westferry Circus, on a site that McNamara’s Grattan Property acquired from Grenadier Investments last year for about €75 million.

There is planning permission for a ten-storey building on the site, but Grattan Property has put plans for the substantially higher tower on display.

If McNamara secures planning permission, it will be the first tower built on the Canary Wharf estate not to be built by Canary Wharf Group. McNamara is one of the biggest property developers in Ireland, with interests including the Glass Bottle site in Dublin 4 and the Elm Park development on Merrion Road.

He has several hotel interests, including the Shelbourne, Burlington and Montrose hotels in Dublin, the Radisson hotel in Galway and the Parknasilla Great Southern in Kerry. He was one of the investors in the consortium that bought Superquinn in 2005 for about €450 million, but has recently sold his 14.5 per cent interest in the retailer."

This should make a nice addition to the wharf, the cladding is a lot more interesting than the average Canary wharf job and at 200m, it isn't small either.

This one came out of the blue - to my understanding there is planning permission on the site for only a 13 storey building. So to see this biggie proposed is very cool.

Will add nicely to the Canary Wharf cluster

Ah so you did, the odd thing is I actually searched to make sure no one hadn't . At least we have it at 200m now rather than 183m. Those extra 17m make a whole world of difference in the world forums.

Another one, very interesting building. And the logo is great.

Here's a new rendering posted by Newcastle Guy.

Btw - the exact height is 191m to the roof, with a facade overrun going up to 197m.

The tower was approved this week. Construction is expected to start in early 2009.
