which reminds me
how the heck are they going to do those giant atria in the tower?
I think the construction of this tower will be very interesting to follow, because I cannot see any place for a central core in it

Great tower for Paris!! The earlier renders didn't do this tower justice. These renderings and the picture are amazing:

Sometimes I have the feeling that the French 'decision makers' don't know what's going on elsewhere in the World.
If so, they wouldn't have selected horrible things such as Mayne's Phare or Nouvel's Signal.
They'd better come on SSC more often!

Foster did it on a smaller scale with Commerzbank.

I don't wanna burst your bubbles, but the SSC community doesn't have all the facts.

Nouvel and l'EPAD do.

they've been working on that project for moths. They've interviewd everyone, talked to the promoters, weighed the pros and cons, studied the financial and practical aspect of things with politicians end elected officials in the area.

So yeah they know more than anyone on SSC.

They're not the cluless morons, some of you depict them as.

I agree with you. Like I'm sure Nouvel does not attend any conferences around the world, read architecture and design magazines like crazy with coffee in the morning, etc. etc. I'm sure he's more aware than the majority who comment on this website. Most of us are not skyscraper/architecture experts. We just happen to like buildings and urban issues and we happen to see and discuss them a lot here but most of us are not experts like him.

BTW, I'm dissappointed a little because his tower is so basic in its shape. However, I'm so impressed with those huge window-like openings with balconies inside and those colors inside. So will one be able to see that from the outside as the rendering suggests?

TBH I'm disappointed that this design was chosen. I actually like the "red room", but the rest is...eh.

It seems to fit to the surroundings quite well, especially with that cube. I kinda like it, not love it, but like it. It has that simplicity that is good for a landmark building and something original like those "holes". Are those screens or just colored walls?

I like the idea of giant screens all over the building. Inside it's just sci-fi!

I rather like it myself. It's sort of reserved at least in the outline. Kind of like a typical American 70's box skyscraper but then it takes it - flips it - turns it inside out and throws some very bold color at you. This isn't over the top but cutting edge. It's going to have a different look to it depending on whether it's night or day. It's going to not say look at me I'm art - love me - like some of these other skyscrapers in Paris (which I mostly don't care for) but it should actually be art - live art.

I personally would've preferred some of the other designs, my favorites where Wilmotte (rendering:

and Foster
()
, but after seeing the new renderings i think that Nouvel's design looks much better than on the previous renderings.
Its boxy, but the facade is designed very well IMO, and the video screen gives the tower an unusual but interesting element. I think that Tour Signal, Tour Phare and Tour Generali will give Paris three new remarkable towers with very interesting, unconventional designs and so will be regarded as new landmarks for Paris. Another good thing on this tower IMO is that it also has residential space, because thats just what La Defense needs , more apartments and hotels to turn the La Defense into a more mixed-use area.
