Construction of Aedas’ design for the Abu Dhabi Investment Council Headquarters begins on site this week.
from
http://www.aedas.com/Imaging/ADICHeadquarters/ 01/03/2009 The practice’s appointment to design the 25-storey twin office towers followed an invited international competition won by Aedas in 2007. The design concept reflects the client’s aspiration to build a pair of office towers that will serve as a landmark for the city of Abu Dhabi while reflecting the aspirations of the 2030 Abu Dhabi Plan. Linked via a podium, the towers, which comprise over 75,000sqm of accommodation, will accommodate approximately 2,100 occupants. “Our design concept was generated from a mathematically pre-rationalised form which was in turn derived from Islamic principles” said Aedas Director Peter Oborn. ” A key feature of the design is the application of a diaphanous screen that envelopes the most exposed aspect of the building in the form of a dynamic ‘Mashrabiya’, opening and closing in response to the sun’s path, significantly reducing solar heat gain and providing a more comfortable internal environment.” |

The elevations of the building are punctuated by three sky gardens arranged on the upper levels of the towers, further reducing the solar heat gain on the most exposed elevation. Planned development for the Abu Dhabi Investment Council project will transform a total site area of 11,500sq m. with a unique architectural design that will meet the aspirations of the client and the city of Abu Dhabi. I doubt that its has been put on hold, but you never know. I think the construction bidding began in early July.
Anyway from the renders it looks like its located in this area. If anyone's in the area a pic or two would be nice, or at least saying what happening (if anything).

Carillion to build £150m Abu Dhabi Investment Council HQ
Carillion has announced that its Middle East joint venture Al Futtaim Carillion has won a £150 million contract to build a new headquarters for the Abu Dhabi Investment Council. The new state-of-the-art building will comprise a two-level basement and podium supporting twin 27-storey towers. It will house the Investment Council’s staff responsible for managing sovereign wealth investments for the Abu Dhabi government and also one of its holdings, the Al Hilal Bank. The design includes a ‘mashrabiya’ solar shading system, which will open and close during the course of each day, according to the position of the sun, making the building highly efficient in terms of heat gain and cooling. Construction work has commenced with completion scheduled for the end of 2011. Carillion chief executive John McDonough said: “We are delighted to have secured another major contact in Abu Dhabi, in line with our strategy of focusing on high quality projects for key, long-term customers. “This latest win follows the successful delivery by Al Futtaim Carillion of the £380 million flagship Yas Hotel project, the centre piece of the new Grand Prix circuit development. “We look forward to working with the Investment Council to deliver its new prestigious headquarters building.” Al Futtaim Carillion is also delivering two other major projects in Abu Dhabi, the £550 million Al Muneera development for ALDAR and infrastructure works for Emirates Aluminium valued at some £200 million. Carillion said it remains on track to deliver substantial turnover growth in 2009 from its businesses in the Middle East which have a pipeline of contract opportunities worth over £6 billion. Al Futtaim wins lift contracts worth $22 million
Sarah Blackman
July 29, 2010 ![]() Al Futtaim Engineering has won three contracts worth US $22.59 million (AED83 million) to supply Hitachi and LM lifts to real estate projects in the UAE. The company will install 79 elevators and 12 escalators in the Nation Towers and the Investment Council Headquarters in Abu Dhabi and Al Hikma Tower project in Dubai. “We are delighted to be partners in some of the biggest and prestigious real estate projects in the country. The three projects further endorse Al Futtaim Engineering’s core competencies as one of leading vertical transportation solution provider in the UAE,” said Al Futtaim Engineering managing director Dawood Ozair. The 64-floor Nation Towers project will be supplied with 45 Hitachi elevator units and eight escalators. This mixed-use project includes a 350-room 5-star hotel, serviced apartments, loft apartments, office space and retail areas. The project, which was awarded by Arabtec and National Projects & Construction (NPC), is expected to be completed by the end of next year. Meanwhile, Al Futtaim Carillion awarded the Investment Council HQ contract to the engineering company in April. The work, which includes installing 22 Hitachi elevators and four escalators, is set to be finished by mid 2011. And, by October next year, the company will supply 12 high-speed elevators to the 61-storey Al Hikma Tower. The contract, which was awarded by China State Construction, was won in April this year. The contract awards are the latest in a string of successes since Al Futtaim's Elevator Division was established in 1973, anticipating the trend for high-rise construction in the UAE. “We are at the high end of the market, involved with complex and demanding projects. Mostly elevators are custom-made for particular projects. We assist from the design and traffic-analysis stage, determining how many elevators are needed, and what capacity and speeds,” explains Elevators Division GM Syed Shamsul Haq. http://www.constructionweekonline.co...th-22-million/
