Damn straight. I'm also mad at Raleigh-NC for stealing the frog and not giving him back. Spit him out damnit. Probably has e.coli or something. Don't want you to die Tux. I'm sick of all of these earthworms, gophers, and a sparrow who won't quit stealing my nuts.

The frog made a conscious decision to disappear for a while, for medidation purposes... I am sure he will return Now let me ask your damn fish: How the Hell am I, in ANY way, a fan of Hip Hop? That signature of yours sucks

g-man, you sound so freakin' confused, I would swear you were high when you wrote the above. Why don't you post some photos of the Apple store in Greensboro? Even better, why don't you ask cityboi to take some photos of his city's most suburban projects and post them here?

Cityboi, have you been on the new Greensboro Urban Loop (Painter Boulevard) going onto Bryan Boulevard? I was on it the other day getting off I-40 from west of Greensboro and you can actually see the Suaratown Mountains/Hanging Rock clearly from there to the left. I was like because I didnt expect to see MOUNTAINS from Greensboro. It is really surreal. Wish I had my camera with me, but it would have been hard to do that while driving
But it just shows that the Triad area (Especially Winston-Salem) is actually much closer to the Appalachian mountains than we realize.

Some pics from the web of those mountains just north-northwest of Winston-Salem and Greensboro:

Charlotte from Pilot Mountain?

Well, you can clearly see downtown W-S, Greensboro, and High Point from Pilot Mountain. Greensboro is 45 miles away. But the magic question is....can you see downtown Charlotte from Pilot Mountain??.....a distance of 81 miles. I was at Pilot Mt. today, and it was 85% clear. There is a picture stand that has just been recently placed at Pilot Mountain that shows different mountain peaks you can see from there. I was able to see one 64 miles away in Virginia. So after that, I started my hunt for the buildings of Charlotte. I used my etrex GPS to get the direction to look, but even with 10x50 binoculars, I could not see it. I did notice one square looking building on the horizon in that direction but I do not think it was downtown Charlotte. In the direction that Charlotte should be, I could spot a small mountain or hill rising above average terrain that has a large communications tower on it, but I am unable to find that on Google Earth to confirm my direction. At that distance, only a few degrees could have me looking in the wrong place. If it is possible to see the buildings of Charlotte, I think it must be 95% or more clear. Days of this clarity only occur 4 or 5 times per year. If you have seen Charlotte from Pilot Mountain please let me know!

That could have been Crowder's Mountain that you were seeing. It's very close to Charlotte. You can see Crowder's Mountain from many places in Charlotte. The city would have been just a bit to the left in your field of vision.

There are a few other foothills in that general direction that it could have been.

Bear Mountain - the first one visible from I-40 driving west.

Anderson Mountain (more likely) - very close to Lake Norman and the most geographically removed foothill from the main Appalachians that isn't part of the Uwharries.
