Yes, he has sandy-coloured hair, is late 40s, slim, athletic build - but don't know about the singing. Is it you?

Thanks for the link Phil.

Things have really come together now, and the gardens look really good.

As an aside, does anyone know what happened to the Blue Peter ship? I recall it being placed outside the St. John's MSCP for a while (where the giant screen is now), but it disappeared some time before the screen was set up. Anyone know where it went?

Scallies tried to give it the Somali pirate treatment before it was moved to in front of Merseyside Police HQ where Con. Dibble could keep an eye on it. The redevelopment of Canning Place as part of Liverpool ONE seems to have resulted in another disappearance. I guess it is back in storage. Emailing the council might result in an answer. It is pretty delicate and so it would need to be somewhere reasonably looked after.

Yeah i agree the pics are great. I agree the comments on the photos are a tad negative!!! I know we would all love to have the place the way it was but the criminal neglect put pay to that. From what i see of the photos and looking through the fence the place looks lovely. I would rather have a slightly smaller cascade and the moonwall having to be rebuilt (cause the old one was unsafe )than a wasteland with a contaminated lake. I still get a lump in my throat when i see videos like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YMUeJ...eature=related . A beautiful site destroyed by lack of vision. With the ropeworks type place opening down the road it is a very bright future for the waterfront though. The festival gardens will prosper, especially if the people of Liverpool use it. Well i will be so thats one
Loving this thread. Great to see so many people excited about the gardens

I think they only put it by St Johns for the benefit of the Capital of Culture judging panel.

I'm pretty sure the Blue Peter ship was vandalised while it was outside St Johns, so it was moved. It was outside the Police HQ for a while, wasn't it?

Went over to the site today and noticed the gate open. A water truck was backed up to the entrance, feeding a sprinkler system. The driver was asleep so I snuck in. Two lady walkers went in too, so I managed to get some snaps before he woke up and caught me red handed. To be fair, it did look open and the guy thought it was pretty funny. He said it opens next month, which looks pretty likely. Some little bits here and there to do, but it is looking great.

I really appreciate that they've put in some children's activity equipment. In time I'd like to see a variety of sculptures and artworks, and a nature trail.

It is difficult to get an idea of how much space this occupies. Does it feel spacious? Are there little nooks and crannies that you could disappear into, for example? And importantly, how secure does it appear?

Not massive, but then that's because of the number of nooks and crannies I suppose. Lots of paths to wander on, with many levels and views. Very interesting and actually quite wild looking in parts. When you go up high, you really feel like you're on a woodland trail.

I didn't get a chance to wander over to the moon wall, which is part of the wider, open part, so can't comment, but bearing in mind it is only the first phase of a three phase development, it will feel a lot bigger once the residential and southern grasslands get done too.

As to security, well, no more or less safe than any other park I've been to. I can't say I've ever even thought about safety whilst in a park, but there were a few spots where you do feel isolated, but you can't get nooks and crannies without that I suppose.

Whatever happened to working class Liverpool, all i see is capital of culture & FDI from China and lush cosmopolitan green spaces. In fact this is a trend across the north west with your foreign owned football teams & BBC offices talk about loadsamoney!!
