#NEVER BUILD: BURJ AL FATTAN, 463M, 96F Mixed Use (Dubai Marina) - Page 6

A Dubai landmark – the Oasis Beach Hotel – is under the wrecking ball after a decade-long vigil on Jumeirah Beach.

The popular 11-storey four-star favourite at Dubai Marina is being torn down to make way for a new development, as yet undisclosed by hotel managers Jebel Ali International Hotels, and owners Al Fattan Properties.

The firm said in a statement: "An exciting new project is expected on the existing site."

The new tower will be 106 storeys tall.

Heavy machinery has already taken down much of the western half of the former 252-room hotel

Oasis Beach Hotel was officially shuttered on August 29, 2008 after what the managers called a "phenomenal run".

"Although not a decision made by Jebel Ali International Hotels (we were the management company, but not owners), it is all part of being in Dubai and seeing this city constantly reinvent itself," the firm stated on its website.

Patrons frequented the beach bar as well as the French and Singaporean restaurants there.

The demolition work should be completed by the end of March.

The title is supposed to mean that the site this tower is supposed to be built on has a building on it that is being demolished. If you can suggest a better way of putting this in one or two words that would be great.

Do they have enough to build this massive tower though? From the renders it doesn't look ultra thin like the usual marina towers either so will need a lot of materials.

You should see how long it took to demolish the building for the shard tower in London. Talk about snail pace.

Anyway it's probably too close to JBR or something to blow it up safely.
