Nice tower! A supertall again in Dubai?

They simply can't get enough of the Burj Dubai, aren't they?

I like the new one better, and I do not believe it will block much of the seaview.

The biggest problem is that in that area are only mid rises hotels. If this goes, what guaranties that the other hotels will not also replaced by supertall towers? And then is also an area free in front of the tallest block, at the other side of the Marina canal entrances, more place for supertalls there as well (now are hotels and yacht clubs)

If this chain of event starts to happen, it will piss off allot of people.

Meh.... what can you do. Reclaim more seaside land .

No, jokes aside, I guess there will need to be some kind of protection from the social side, planning authorities etc. It is a legitimate concern. There are plenty of other good locations in Dubai that are planned for development though.

Another stupid and senseless proposal for Dubai. I know, lets build a huge 90 storey building right on the beach spoiling everyone elses view behind when we've got all the space in the world. Atrocious urban design and sums up everything that is bad about the excesses of the Dubai building boom, unsustainable, unneccessary and completely ill considered. I'm looking forward to the spectacular crash when all this nonsense comes to an undignified halt.

And a big part of the ones who will loose from that will be your fellow Brits, which in return will start defaulting the locally taken loans which will slow the recovery from the crisis which will effect your life as well.

We are already losing in the UK with the recession and a falling housing market, I doubt a few thousand Brits getting their fingers burnt in Dubai will make a jot of difference. Loads of Brits have already lost a great deal with the crash in the Spanish housing market, especially those who thought they could buy off plan and make a quick buck. The same will happen for those who invested at the top of the market in Dubai. A fool and their money are easily parted.

A few Brits defaulting on loans in Dubai won't effect my life at all, no more than it is being affected already. You should be more concerned about what your life will be like in Dubai when there are hundreds of empty (and crap) apartment blocks being sold for peanuts. What will happen then?

I don't wish a crash on anyone, but I will say that too much of the Dubai property boom was built on the money of speculators rather than good demographic fundamentals. Relying on speculators to maintain growth is wreckless and can result in extreme boom and bust cycles. I agree with the comment from the former Emaar CEO below.

Source: http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5j...A13pQD9430HHO1

Richard Rodriguez, the former CEO of the Dubai division of Emaar Properties, the builder of the world's tallest building and one of Dubai's biggest developers, said too many builders in the emirate have focused on return-seeking investors — rather than people looking for homes to live in.

"Some of those heightened, frenzied launches — with all the developers — took on the characteristics of pyramid schemes. If you got in early, you were guaranteed to make money," he said.

"The developers that will survive are the ones who can market and sell to the end user," he said. "And that hasn't existed in Dubai so far."

Well, I already said the I object to the location and the precedences it will create, my problem was more with the overall tone of your post.

A crash waiting to happen, the legacy of which will be a load of crap apartments that nobody in their right mind would want to live in for more than 6 months. You can see swaithes of them going up already, substandard and designed to suck in the foolish investor from wherever who has already missed getting in at the right time. Much of Dubai is a big scam, I saw some development being advertised in the paper here recently.....guaranteed 50% capital return....

If it sounds too good to be true......

This thread isn't about the UK, its about the insanity of Dubai. I'm not trolling, just adding a dose of realism to your tower wankfest.
