Tearing down the old Oasis beach hotel seems to take quite a while. Looks like building is faster than demolishing in Dubai...

Yip we have a real problem knocking things down, the pearl was a disaster and the onlky thing they goit right so far was the old Hilton at Trade centre.

this has beene going on for so long its crazy, could have imploded in 1 day and cleaned up for 4 and be way ahead of program but we dont implode in Dubai (or Abu Dhabi) we knock it down in a very unsafe manner

I think it is because everything is very over-dimensioned with lots of concrete and steel.. Easy to construct, difficult to demolish.

Ah so it is the hotel with the slanting edge toward the beach that they are demolishing. I like how it helped the eye move down from the towers into the waterfront as opposed to what seems to be going there.

AltinD, do you know how old that beach hotel was? It didn't seem like very old construction at all. Do you locals consider (or considered) it to be a "bad" architectural project? It just seemed like a decent lower height hotel that got bought out to build something larger there.

Bids in for Dubai's Burj al-Fattan
6 March, 2009

The local Al-Fattan Properties has received bids from at least two groups for its Burj al-Fattan project at Dubai Marina.

The bidders include the joint venture of the local Al-Habtoor Engineering Enterprises with South Africa’s Murray & Roberts Contractors (Middle East), and the local Arabtec Construction.

The scheme involves the construction of a 96-floor mixed-use tower on the site of the old Oasis Beach hotel (MEED 16:2:09).

UK-based Mace International is the project manager.

In 2006, Arabtec completed the Al-Fattan Marine Towers in the same area for the same client.

Dubai-based property developer Fortune Group has invited companies to submit bids by late March for the contract to build a 501-metre-high tower in Dubai. The high-rise project is called the Burj al-Alam.
