All the more reason to get it listed! The back to back houses on Hurst Street are the only back-to-backs left in Birmingham, let alone the city centre!

But would they suit sitting next to large apartment and office blocks? They are nothing special and would look out of context, so if it came to it, I wouldn't object to them being flattened.

I was being facetious about the slum housing - the lintels are too nice for slums. Lock-keeper's cottage?

Well, walking around an area like this and coming across this tiny thing is like a time capsule! It's a hidden gem! Of course, it could do with a lot of work to bring back the brickwork and spruce up the windows, but it has potential!

I don't think it is a lock-keeper's cottage as it is just too big for that. It strikes me more as a workshop, to be honest. But saying that, I'd expect the ceilings to be higher, unless there isn't a first floor.

There is now a temporary entrance to the Crowne Plaza to the right of the original entrance, looks uninviting but it'll do the job for a couple of months. Cameraphone shot to illustrate -

It just occurred to me that the Arena Central site might be being cleared to allow the ground floor extension of the Crowne Plaza?

I didn't realise there was going to be a ground floor extension.

Update from today.

Cladding on the sides is quite nice.

Demo of the canopy/entrance.

thanks jay.

loving the white. i think it will look more in character when V and the surrounding area is built. everything is so grey there at the moment, nice to see something brighter.

Perhaps it would look better if "HOLIDAY INN CROWNE PLAZA" was emblazoned down the side of the white cladding?
