God I wish The Strand was underground. How awesome would that be if that was a cafe lined pedestrian plaza with trees and plants etc.

The Strand-Goree should be made into a simple boulevard, rather than forcing the urban clearway underground. It could then have all the pavement cafes and other activities that civilised cities have. We would then also have ridded ourselves of the notion that urban clearways are an appropriate traffic management system in the heart of our cities. You must remember that, even if they did put the Strand underground, the rest of the motorway it is a small part of would still be strangling downtown?

Ridding ourselves of the concept would enable us to tackle Leeds St and Islington etc in exactly the same way we could do to free the Strand-Goree

That is majestic. It's got a bit of a Gotham City quality to it. I don't have any axe to grind about cities in England and don't have a particular favourite but from what I've seen it's clear that Liverpool's skyline is head and shoulders above the other major cities.

That monstrosity with the clocks on top would never to be allowed today. It completely dominates it's surroundings and blocks sightlines of that funny green crane thing!

Exactly! These days, it wouldn't be allowed because it dwarfs the previously dominant church. Bollocks!

I would hate to see The Strand underground; it does add the city element to it; it wouldn't feel right without it. A Champs-Elyseés style boulevard would work well though.

I am going through a phase again where I'm falling in love with Manchester all over again, lol.. probably cos I was there last night, but .. god its a city, lol. Really wish I'd had the chance to get a pic of the manc eye all lit up, it looked superb, (especially next to the pink Arndale lights)..
