METRO DE MADRID:

Probably Metro of Madrid is the only one with 6 stations which serve 6 diferent Hospitals and with the following names for the stations:

Hospital 12 de Octubre (L3)
Hospital de Fuenlabrada (L12)
Hospital de Móstoles (L12)
Hospital del Henares (L7)
Hospital Infanta Sofía (L10)
Hospital Severo Ochoa (L12)

However, the most repeated word is "San" in 9 metro stations:

San Bernardo (L2, L4)
San Blas (L7)
San Cipriano (L9)
San Cristobal (L3)
San Fermín-Orcasur (L3)
San Fernando (L7)
San Francisco (L11)
San Lorenzo (L4)
San Nicasio (L12)

The nearest metro network in other country:

First:
Brussels (Belgium) <--> Lille (France) : 91km

Second:
Brussels (Belgium) <--> Rotterdam (Holand): 121km

(I don´t know how consider Hong Kong <--> Shenzhen , it´s 27km between them, but... sorry about that!)

Hospital Niño Jesús (L11)
Hospital del Aire (L11)

Oslo and San Francisco have 3200 mm wide trains, which makes them (I don't know if we had that already -- and if there are wider ones...):
Widest metro trains: Oslo, San Francisco (3.20 m; from Schleife, Hans-Werner et al.: Metros der Welt. Geschichte, Technik, Betrieb. Transpress 1992.)

Not sure, but 81-717/81-714 could be most popular metro cars ever made. I don't have exact figures on how much of cars were made, but they are in production since 1977 and still being produced. and being used in at least 17 metro systems.

http://www.mosmetro.ru/pages/page_0.php?id_page=99
http://metro.molot.ru/facts.shtml

one statistic that may be largest of all: total length of all escalators of the system - 64.7 km

The only rock band which has a Metro Line named after it: U2 (Berlin, Vienna, Hamburg, Munich - at least)

PS: Not the best joke ever, I know. Yet, much better than most of entertainment programms on Czech commercial TV channels.

PPS: I am going to find some "the ~est" for Prague, just a second.

Tokyo - Yokohama has the closest metro network that I know of. The southern end of the Toei Asakusa line and Hiyoshi on the Yokohama subway is barely 5km apart.
