The Globe off London road, popular match day watering hole and Meadows booza, has closed down for the last time? over the bank holiday WE. The Royal Navy association, whose property is being bulldozed to make way for the tram are thought to be interested. The site is a bit off a mess though with derelict buildings dilapidated carwash and contaminated land. Once identified for possible redevelopment as posh apartments (as was much of the area) then Tesco?. it (the site) is a bit of an eyesore when entering the city from Trent Bridge, the Pub itself represents the only viable structure long term, but only if someone takes it on before next seasons Footy starts, otherwise probably be the end of it. site and buildings are owned by the defunct Lace Market properties.

There's still that one on Trent Bridge (the former CASA) I guess, as well as the Trent Navigation over the canal.

It's a shame to see it close as its a good pub. The developer had to wait for the contaminated land behind it (ex petrol station) to neutralise and disipate before they can do anything with it.

Also, BZR has closed apparently. Hope the unit is filled quickly as it's right opposite the castle. Also, has anyone tried to get into the castle recently? I did a couple of months ago and it costs a fucking fiver! As a tax paying city resident it should be free.

Surprised to hear of the closure of BZR. It was quite a good bar popular with the uni students. It always seemed busy and lively too. Perhaps it's something to do with its location away from the central area.

A good bar? Are you kidding me?

It wouldn't have been out of place on the main strip of Malia, Crete.

Yeah it might of been a bit cheesy, but it was nonetheless popular. I quite liked it as place to go before going onto a club.

Stefan, I thought you could get in free as a city resident, is this no longer the case? Maybe I'd just imagined it!

So glad to see that BZR vomited out its last bunch of students last week, I will not miss playing dodge the vom on my morning walk to work past the Castle! Let's hope something nice opens up there. with the french windows it would make a nice bar/restaurant unit

That's what i asked the guy at the ticket office. He said that it changed last year. Its a massive shame really. Its one of the nicest parts of the city but you can't enjoy it without being fleeced.

I might be wrong but isn't there still a WMC/Pub along Arkwright Walk, near the church?

Haven't been that way for a few years now, but I used to walk past it on the way to the City Ground.

Looks like city residents with a Citycard can get into the Castle for £1 Tuesday-Friday, or get a 'weekday season ticket' for £8.

I used escape the office and eat my lunch in the Castle grounds with the occasional ice cream purchase if I was feeling particularly flush...

Now I don't.

Good anecdote, eh?!

IMAX, Cineworld partner for more UK screens

29 May, 2012

By Andreas Wiseman

Three IMAX theatres will be installed into existing Cineworld multiplexes with an option to increase that number to five.

IMAX and Cineworld are to expand their revenue sharing agreement in the UK with the addition of up to five new IMAX screens.

Under the terms of the new agreement, three IMAX theatres will be installed into existing Cineworld multiplexes with an option to increase that number to five.

The first two theatres systems are scheduled to open in Enfield and Birmingham in October 2012, with the remaining system expected to open in Nottingham in the beginning of 2013.

Cineworld has opened IMAX screens in Edinburgh, Crawley and Sheffieldsince December 2011.

The deal brings the total number of IMAX venues open or contracted to open in the UK to 22 (24 including the option), 19 of which are currently open.

“The response from our customers to our recently opened IMAX theatres has been overwhelmingly positive, and today’s agreement is a direct result of our success to date,” said Crispin Lilly, vice president of business affairs, Cineworld Group PLC. “IMAX is a key differentiator for our multiplexes and we’re delighted to bring the unique, premium, immersive cinematic experience that only IMAX delivers to a wider audience across the UK.”

“It’s great to see that in such a short time Cineworld is already seeing results with IMAX and adding more theatres to its circuit, which points to a growing momentum for IMAX in EMEA,” said IMAX CEO, Richard L. Gelfond.

Strange that Cafe Rouge is closing down tomorrow and not relocating any time soon. Had lunch in there today and it was packed

Also I guess turtle bay above means the end of Strada in Nottingham too...
