Why couldn't the tallest building be something nicer than that? I saw it first quite a few pages ago and thought it was just some non-descript project that nobody will actually care for, not something as significant as that. It just looks a solid block of moiré patterns

Tall buildings update | July 2016

Decidedly more greens and blues at the very top of the tall buildings update now than there was a few months ago.
  • Owen St towers 1, 2, 3 and 4 have been approved. Towers 1 & 4 (64 floors, 200.5m; 44 floors, 122m) have now started Groundworks, whilst 2 & 3 (52 floors, 158m; 48 floors, 141m) are part of a later phase.

  • Construction has begun on Exchange Court (44 floors, 130m), which was at Groundworks stage on the last update.

  • Also at Groundworks stage is Angel Gardens (36 floors, 106m) and 10-12 Whitworth St (36 floors, 117m). Angel Gardens will start construction in the next few months whereas 10-12 Whitworth needs some pretty major demolition work to take place first.

  • River St tower (40 floors, 125m) is still On Hold despite the Mancunian Way reopening, throwing uncertainty onto that scheme

HoUSe Springfield | Adelphi

Thread: http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showth...#post126928436

  • Architect: Shedkm

  • Floors: Houses 2-3 floors, apartment blocks 6 floors

  • Developer: Urban Splash

  • Completion: 2018

Current status: Groundworks

Groundworks have now started on HoUSe Springfield, Urban Splash's second modular housing concept - the other being across town in New Islington. The designs are controversial but they've proved popular, offering a large amount of space and, rarely for homes this close to the city centre, a garden.

The New Islington scheme (photos below). The homes are prefab, manufactured off-site and then assembled on-site.

It's amazing to think that Gateway House could be torn down to make way for a new station, HS2/HS3 station, along with the total redevelopment of the surrounding area.

No much change atm.

Back and front.

Gateway House redevelopment recieves planning permission

Posted: 23/12/11

Manchester City Council has approved Hodder + Partners’ proposed redevelopment of Richard Seifert’s 1965 Gateway House, next to Piccadilliy Station

Backed unanimously by councillors yesterday (22 December), the £35 million scheme for Realty Estates will see the landmark curved-office building converted into a 270-room hotel.
There are also plans for a new 3,700m² office block with ground floor retail space on Ducie Street and a separate three-storey gym built behind the Seifert building.

Stephen said: ‘The application went through smoothly. Realty Estates is in final negotiations with two hotel operators and hopes to conclude a deal in January with a view to starting on site in May.’

He added: ‘The £20 million hotel element will take about 15 months to complete with the office scheme following on later.’

The development is the latest hotel scheme to be given the green light around the city centre station and the AJ understands the ‘hotel cluster’ is set to grow with more projects in the pipeline.
