Webcam footage showing the first concrete pour at this enormous site.

It's been a very slow preparation/groundworks stage for this, but it looks like construction is now forthcoming.

X1 MediaCityUK | Salford Quays
Apartments | Salford

Thread: http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showth...=403150&page=8

  • Address: 1 Michigan Avenue, Salford Quays, Salford M50

  • Architect: AHR

  • Floors: 4x26

  • Height: 4x86m

  • Cost: £200m

  • Developer: X1

Current status: Towers 1 & 2 Under Construction, Towers 3 & 4 Approved

Nearest transport: Harbour City

Tower 1 continues to rise. Although Tower 2 is sold out, there doesn't appear to be any indication that it is starting to rise - however piling has already been done across the whole site and the site is surrounded by quite tall hoardings so there's no way of telling what's going on.

There was also some initial disappointment with the cladding used, however this is not the final product and more panels will be added later

Funny how the finished item changes your opinion, i really loved Cambridge street in renders, but in those pictures it looks too heavy, blocky and not enough glass, its seems dumbed down.

No2 St Peters though i really disliked in the renders, it reminded me of a 60's car park with 70's patterned garden wall side, but in reality it looks light, sharp with clean lines. I would worry how it ages, hopefully they maintain it well otherwise dirty could build up on all the multifaceted surfaces.

Yes, hopefully they won't be green-tinged with algae after a few years of the Mancunian weather, that could look pretty awful.

Until very recently, the building was in use as teaching and learning space associated with the MMU School of Theatre and the Department of Languages. The building also included the Capitol Theatre, a performance space used by MMU theatre and acting students, as well as public theatrical productions. However, the building has reached the end of its economic life; therefore, MUU wish to demolish the existing structure to facilitate the delivery of a new building on the site. The building has been vacated and MMU staff and students have temporarily relocated to the former Cornerhouse building (70 Oxford Street), adjacent to Oxford Road railway station. Detailed proposals for a replacement building are in preparation, and a full planning application is expected to be submitted in autumn 2016.

The original scheme looked like this:

However the design has been refined and it looks more demure to suit the Grade II Grosvenor Building next door:

For anyone who doesn't know the offensive building that is currently there (but not for much longer):

I like how Cambridge Street has turned out. Very contemporary but in a pleasing way imo. Great updates guys.

You see m to be like me, one of only a few People who like it. Think it looks great.

St John's, and the 3 towers. 2 are PRS towers. The 50 storey St John's tower already has a Hotel operator signed up for the first 12 floors.
