That being said though, at least Manchester has some amazing projects aswell, in contrast with other cities.

I am more keen on London projects but have always checked the rest of UK cities' forums and what I've come to realise, especially in the last months, is that the proposals for Manchester are a great deal better and come in greater numbers. I mean, no offence but, compare that to Liverpool which seems to be building student accommodation mostly.

Manchester has started getting "London projects" as I like to call them and I really hope that this trend continues. Definitely in the right direction to become the second city, if it isn't already.

My view of the city has massively improved that I am actually considering moving there in a few years. It just feels like a city that is now very confident and positive about the future, unlike Birmingham that can't seem to get its act together.
I'd have to agree with you there... It's such a shame with Birmignham. I think all UK Cities are competing for recognition, but since 2010 I feel like Manchester is definitely pushing more for it.

Both Liverpool and Birmingham have the potential, I just feel that Manchester is building an infrastructure and system for A LOT of potential - a good example is the Metro.

You either love it or loathe it...

'Hated' Piccadilly Gardens wall is facing the end - 25 years after the Berlin Wall came down

Quote:
The end is in sight for Manchester’s infamous Piccadilly Wall - as the world marks the 25th anniversary of the Berlin Wall coming down.

Just as the hated symbol of Soviet oppression ended life in thousands of paperweights being advertised on eBay, our very own despised lump of concrete will also have a practical function its afterlife - as an internal wall for a parade of stylish shops and bars.

It will also support a rooftop garden.

The potential new role for the wall comes after an M.E.N. campaign earlier this year sparked by thousands of readers expressing their dislike for the concrete landmark.

Pat Karney, Manchester council’s city centre spokesman, said: “This is the end of the wall as we know it.”

The wall - officially called the Japanese Pavilion - has been repeatedly compared to the Iron Curtain since its construction in 2002.

Until earlier this year, council bosses were insistent that it was both functional and attractive.

But after three-quarters of 4,000 readers surveyed by the M.E.N. said they ‘hated’ the wall, the town hall was prompted to act.

Now L&G, who bought it earlier this year, have met with the council to discuss exactly what happens next.

The firm - already a major landowner around Piccadilly Gardens - has decided to build a row of shops, restaurants and bars along the top of the structure, facing into the plaza.

It is expected that the current frontage will be completely overhauled.

The Berlin Wall came down 25 years ago
What happens to the back of it - facing onto the bus station - remains unclear, but it is understood that could be painted or even get a totally new facade, so the concrete is covered.

Coun Karney said: “It will be the biggest change to the wall since it was built.

“It’s very early days yet but it looks as if the wall will become an ‘internal’ wall for the cafes, bars and restaurants.”

He said the owners did not want to demolish the wall entirely - because they agree it does function as a safety and sound barrier between the gardens and the bus station.

The freestanding part of the wall nearby, which is owned by the gardens, is believed to have been earmarked for a new Manchester-themed art gallery.

Absolutely fantastic news!!! I love the design, and I adore that it will so close to The Beetham tower.

Great stuff guys. I'm so pleased for Manchester!

I'm personally not a fan of The Beetham tower to put it politely. But this new building looks much better. Hope it looks as good when built.

Seen this one going up in London, guys?

Also, Phase 1 of Knight Knox International's four towers in Salford Quays has apparently had 50% sold in 3 weeks!
It has a nice full-page spread on the back of the Telegraph's Property section.

X1 MediaCity | Michigan Avenue, Salford

- 4x26 storey towers near the waterfront
- 1600 apartments
- shops and retail on the ground floor
- close to Harbour City Metrolink
- close to MediaCityUK

50% of Phase 1 has now sold! It's been on the market less than 2 weeks.

Phase 1 = one tower, which means about 200 flats have been sold. This means we'll be seeing construction start on the first tower in this scheme pretty soon.
