So they spend presumably millions on the upgrade for Salford Central but your still using the clapped out pacer trains from the 1970s.

There i was thinking that having to use trains from the 1990s was horrible.

Aerial Video TV.

Ordsall Curve. Connecting Liverpool to Manchester, and on to Leeds, straight through. No more changing stations. You can see the direction of the connecting bridge/track across the river.

This Afternoon.

The Embankment, Greengate, Update

Completion is imminent for our commercial regeneration scheme in Salford.

1st Dec 2016

On the site of Manchester’s historic Exchange Station, construction of the first phase of our commercial scheme draws to a close, with the second phase scheduled for development early next year. When finished, the modern steel and glass office buildings will appear as lightweight highly polished jewels, sat above the robust historic façade of the railway embankment.

VDB may have already posted this, but use your imagination.

Pilling rig is now on site. Port Street. First block. M-One Central is well under way. second block.

use your imagination.

How both will look side by side, along with Angel Gardens(activity onsite over the last few day's) at the Far end of Great Ancoats Street, beside the CIS tower.

The Pacers are being phased out over the next few years aren't they?

Trains from the 90s should be fine for a while yet I think, the average life expectancy of a train is not like a car, you don't scrap them after 10-12 years.

I can vaguely remember that first transpennine is getting new trains although ,they are by their nature intercity rather than the suburban services that are offered by Northern who operate the pacers.

I use the class 160/1s by GWR and they seem ok and they're getting a new lick of paint and refurbished interiors. Add that to the class 387s and Crossrail class 345s by the end of the decade and i don't really have a right to complain.

Who runs the trains that go from Manchester to Sheffield via Edale (Peak District)? By this I mean the slow trains that stop everywhere. I want to avoid this operator in the future as those trains have absolutely no leg room. I'm not that tall and I can't actually fit in and need to sit sideways, which is only possible if the seat next to me is empty.

I noticed the renovation planned for Salford Central on the other page, any idea when this will start? It looks quite nice.

The one that stops at every station will be run by Northern Rail - and you were probably on board a Pacer train, which will be cascaded out of use by 2019. They've been officially deemed unsafe (long ago) so why they're still running on some of the commuter routes out of one of the UK's main cities is anybody's guess. If it's Sheffield you were heading for there are lots of other (quicker and better) options available - including East Midlands trains and Transpennine Express.

Good spot mooned thanks for pointing out I'll edit it straight away. I just lazily copy+paste the format for each project so I obviously accidentally left 10-12 Whitworth Street's address in by mistake

My development map is here, going to put it in my signature before long

Manchester would quickly match Warsaw and Milan in few years in term of skyline.
