Is that the one that is so hated by the locals?

If so, I have to admit that while I so far have been really enthusiastic about all the great new highrises in Manchester going up, this plan seemed so out of place in this location.

I am really surprised and actually saddened that this is being built. Every other building in that area is red brick and has some leanings towards the historical character of one of the city's most historic areas, but this one has made zero effort.

That said. If it goes up, I'm tempted to buy there, especially on the canal side, as it is such a great location! Better to be in it and look out, than out and see it.

The building it will be next to has a lot of white on it. I think it will look fine.

Looking forward to the highlighted events.

St Michael's may have to be postponed. Or it might still take place. It all depends on the planning decision. Gary must be sweating a bit. Or is he?

Considering the opposition by the locals in Castlefield. Including the pubs and restaurants in the area who would have stood to gain with a new residential build. 2- 4 Chester Road should never have been approved.

I suppose it will be that pile of crap St. Michaels next!

You'll just have to wait and see, won't you. It's certainly no St Michael's.

Interesting plans for Mayfield Station: http://www.manchesterconfidential.co...emporary-plans

Let's hope these plans get off the ground. I visited a similar scheme in Copenhagen last summer and it was really amazing. I kept thinking that Manchester would be a perfect city for something like this. http://copenhagenstreetfood.dk/en/

I guess though that the Copenhagen one has a huge advantage... waterfrontage. It is so much nicer on a summer's day to sit by the waterfront and eat/drink rather than sit by the railway line. But still, I hope this street food market goes ahead and succeeds.

One Spinningfields this morning by Caiman.

The building is now 90% let, which means the developer should now be progressing with plans for a similar tower across the road.

When you say "across the road" are you referring to the Astley & Byrom House or a part of the St John's Masterplan?

Astley & Byrom - we've seen early massing renders of a similarly-sized block to be built there by Allied London

The old plans for A&B appear to have been dropped

Ah, thanks for the insight. You've probably heard this before but thanks for all the effort you put into keeping the rest of us updated in what's going on in Manchester.

Just out of interest do you know why the original plans for A&B were shelved? The building that stands there presently really does need to be replaced, especially since it overlooks St John's gardens, one of the few green spaces in our city centre.

No idea - it's been quiet for at least a year now. My best guess is that Allied London offered them a price for the site and they accepted! Here's hoping Allied London are cooking up something amazing, and yeah as you say it overlooks St John's Gardens, I really hope more can be made of that.

In fact just thinking about it, there's a cut-through arcade on the ground floor of One Spinningfields. I bet whatever Allied are planning has a similar cut-through underneath it, which would provide a seamless link between Hardman Square in Spinningfields and St John's Gardens, which would be fab
