Not a lot of visible change: the structure is now complete and brickwork is up to a bit above road level. Some windows can be seen in place.

The City Suites Green Gate

Quote:
Another development about to start

CITYSUITES MANCHESTER

The brand's flagship scheme is situated in Manchester, UK, in what is undoubtedly going to be the most desirable residential addresses in the city. Located at the end of Deansgate – considered the ‘spine’ of the city, shops, restaurants, theatres and Manchester’s thriving business district are all within a five-minute walk. The striking 17-storey residence will have 260 apartments, plus a pool, gym and concierge service. It is due for completion in 2016.

At the moment Jamie I think these are the only renders available, but of course we will update when we can, I personally think they have combined the Original features quite well with the new build.

Don't get me wrong - it really compliments the façade... however, in all honesty, it looks a bit crap.

Architects are generally pumping out the same bland, rectangular rubbish in city centres at the moment, that isn't that far away from being brutalist, in my opinion. Why no creativity?!

I think you mean developers are requesting bland rectangular rubbish. Architects design what they are told to and if a developer does not want a creative building then they will not ask for one.

The fact is, most developers do not really care about creativity. All they care about is floor area and risk. So architects are instructed to make buildings appeal to the widest variety of tenants whist being flexible whilst using floor space efficiently. This results in bland but functional buildings.

This is why you will find that something like the CoOp building is creative and elaborate because it is designed specifically for one user. Whist Spinningfeilds is pretty bland because it has to appeal to many doffernt users with different requirements.
