For a peripheral location outside the ring road they are definitely OK! Good to see that part of town achieving its potential.

The western approach to Manchester Victoria has been transformed in recent years. There's now an impressive canyon effect as you enter, electrification of the line to Liverpool (with the line to Bolton in the process of being electrified) and now, as part of the Hub and Ordsall Chord works, more tracks are being added to the west of the station to finally increase capacity along the north's primary rail pinch-point.

The Northern-oppressing London government is finally letting us enter the 20th century

Christ, I won't hold my breath.

London will be on its 10th crossrail by the time Westminster lets us enter the 21st century

I reckon we'll have to declare independence/stop paying our taxes into London and just do it ourselves

A comparison montage showing how the western approach into Victoria station has changed over the years.

The 1964 photo shows how Victoria station's platform 3 used to extend all the way into the adjacent Exchange Station (it was possible to walk through into a different station via the same platform). Platform 3 was, for this reason, the world's longest platform until Exchange Station closed in the late 1960s.

2008:

2014:

2016:

Now, trains wind their way through Central Salford's tall buildings on their way into Victoria station.

The unused section of track in the centre of the viaduct in the photo below will soon be re-filled with rail tracks as part of the expansion of Salford Central station. Three new platforms are being built alongside the existing station, and further down the viaduct is being altered this weekend to enable the Ordsall Chord to be built - to link trains from Victoria with the city centre's south side train stations at Piccadilly, Deansgate and Oxford Road.

Apartments go on sale for Phase 1 on April 10th.

I've got a mate who works for this company - they've apparently rented out an entire call centre for that week: the apartments are due to sell out within 2 days.
