Based on the 3-D video, the still-under-construction Carlisle St. parking garage in downtown St. Catharines is more than an average car drop-off depot.

Having ground floor retail is definitely the way to go nowadays.

The "map" shows two components...one the Brock, which occupies the valley floor; the second cluster shows the arts centre which is street level...the grade between the two is steep but lends itself extremely well for a spectacular site plan

My understanding of the concept is that the two facilities will merge..the Brock component will consist of the "Canada Haircloth' site which rises to the 5th floor from the "valley floor"and through a series of walkways, connects to the Performing Arts component which is on street level(St Paul St) where it will rise three floors

Having the building act as an "elevator" would be pretty cool. I'm sure a lot of people would find it much easier to go into the valley if they could do it inside.

I passed through St. Catharines on Saturday. The big parking garage is coming along well. Hopefully it is dressed up nicely to make the skyline still look good.

news on Port Place

Port Dalhousie Vitalization Corp.'s owners have sold Port Place to a development team with a track record in major construction. If sales of the condo units, priced from $500,000 to more than $3 million, go well in the next few weeks, demolition of much of Port's commercial core could start as soon as August. Eighty units will first be offered for sale early next week to 400 people who have pre-registered with Port Place. The company, Landform Canada Construction, has a joint venture agreement with Niacon Construction of Niagara Falls to build the 17-storey condominium, hotel, theatre, retail, and underground parking complex.

What exactly would get demolished in Port Dalhousie? I thought the tower was going up in the back of Hogan's Alley near the parking lot.
