Drove by there this morning on the way to my Dad's and it was pretty emotional to see so little still standing. I got out of the rental car for a few minutes and just stood there and remembered. Oddly enough, it looked as if Section 32---where I sat for many, many years at Dolphins games---was coming down today.
I understand the whole "progress" thing and that nothing lasts forever but it's still VERY sad to see for any true Miamian of a certain age or beyond. As I said before, maybe you just had to have been there to get it. Those that were know exactly what I mean. This is a BIG part of our history vanishing. (enjoying the quick trip down regardless) |

I wasn't there except for a couple of games the last two years, but I always heard about it. Always saw it on TV. Always equated the Orange Bowl as a symbol of Miami.
I thought it's time had come, that the death blow happened many years ago through neglect. That doesn't make any easier to watch it all come down though. |

Well, the Orange Bowl is officially deceased. He lived for 70 years (1937-2008). I don't know if a baseball stadium for the Marlins should be built on the site. i think it should be built somewhere else in Miami.
And the Orange Bowl's successor, Dolphins stadium, should be nicknamed "Miami Orange Bowl II" or "The Miami Gardens Orange Bowl" because some of its current tenants used to play at the old stadium.

Does anybody have any pictures of this area presently,I hope they at least left the palm trees . I know it is a big void to many true Miamians, fortunately there are pictures and memories that will live in your minds and hearts.
