Tampanian vs. Tampan?

I've always used and prefered the term "Tampanian" when referring to people from Tampa, as Tampan always leaves an open opportunity for someone to come up with a "tampon" joke.

its Tampanian..... Derived from Itlalian, spanish, and Cuban immigrants calling Tampa, Tampania,... theres even streets called Tampania...and the Mafia even had a language called Tampanian that was a hybrid of spanish, Italian and English,...they used to speak it over the phones to throw off any authorities that might be trying to bug the calls.

Tampanian, hands down; honestly the only time I have heard people use "Tampan" was as the butt of a joke (Tampon). There are a lot of names for the people of a city though, so I guess is is just what develops over time, but I have always known Tampanian.

Tampanian. Tampan would only make sense if the city's name was Tamp.

...most of them had to do with the early Bucs - they were only good for one period.

I'm a fan, really; I just could not help it.

When I moved here in '87, the locals were said to be "Tampans"...and I was just reading an old Tampa Streetcar Brochure, and there was a quote that stated "Tampa Electric Company, Carriers of Tampans for over 50 years"

I just moved away from Tampa and "Tampans" sounds alot better, without the jokes and extra-curricular stuff that comes with it. LOL. Out of towners call the people here "Baltimorons".
