We looked at mountains until dawn, and then when dawn came, it was too pretty for me - there was pink and blue and gold, in the sky, and on icy places, brilliant pink and gold flashes, and the snow was colored too, and I said," Oh," and sighed; and each moment was more beautiful than the one before; and I said, " I love you, Momma." Then I fell asleep in her arms.
That was happiness then.

Probably the most underrated city in Asia followed by Seoul.

why taipei looks so0o0o japan/japanese?

the buildings architecture, the city planning, the signboards, the green colored highway, the way people dress, the hairstyle, the scooters, the bicycle stands, the DAIKIN ad on the top of buildings

the only different is...Taipei got Cheng Kai Shek...

^ In the same way as the Netherlands, the UK, Belgium, Switzerland, and France look somewhat similar, we would expect Taiwan, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapour, and South Korea to look somewhat similar. This shouldn't be surprising due to the countries being not so distant geographically and sharing the same (or a very similar) economic history.

This being said, I don't find Taipei looks 'like Japan'. People dress differently, the buildings have different architecture/materials, and at street level, the city looks much more like Hong Kong than a Japanese city IMO. There's only certain parts of Tokyo or Osaka which remind me vaguely of these pictures.

Anyhow, nice pictures taipei walker, I always enjoy reading your threads and this one is no exception. Cheers.

^ this is why I said we MAY EXPECT them to look SIMILAR, not that they ARE the SAME.

That is, similarities rather than major differences should be logically expected.

And based on pictures I have seen, residential areas of Singapore do share similarities with South Korean "bed-town" cities.

Since when does the UK look anything like Switzerland, Belgium or France? Those countries look TOTALLY different architecturally to each other. There are very few similarities at all - especially in the makeup of the "older" buildings let alone the modern suburbs.

These countries are not "totally" different. From a non-european perspective, they are quite similar from the point of view of people, buildings, and urbanism. They do have differences thus with the UK standing out in Europe in perhaps a similar way as Japan stands out in Asia.

Based on my experiences living in Europe and Asia, I believe my previous analogy is quite good and reflects well the amount of similarities/differences present within some asian countries compared to some european countries.
