I thought more about 'to curry' like 'to groom' or 'to currycomb' (german: striegeln, putzen. kämmen etc.)... but your choice is fine with me

you never have been at a pony yard, petting zoo or farm or something like that?

Well, I made some remarks about cooking the goats when I was there... my two little sisters didn't like it

My grandparents were all farmers so i've been to a farm hundreds of times but they had cows and I don't think they combed them!

obviously not... there plenty of these fairs around here, in summer you can have them every week in a different town/village. I guess the season starts with easter vacations as people here tend to use these days for family activities...
