ive added some of the earlier title holders. ive researched as hard as i could.
does anyone think there were any title holders between Drake Tower (1929) and marina city (1964)??
Drake tower was actuallu purpose built as an apartment tower. you will find many bldgs listed as residential now may have been office when originally built in 30s ect.
please let me know, or if any title holders pre 1929

worlds first 30storey apartments.

Hi Cul,

I think we could squeeze in HHHR Tower in Dubai before The Torch It was completed in April

Two points to mention:

1. The Blue (HHHR) Tower is a mixed use one, not resdential, plus it is not taller then the previous record holder, so it wouldn't qualify either way.

2. Has anybody else got the feeling that the slowdown on the Princess Tower (while speed on the sister Elite Residence actually increasing) might be related to a secret deal with the developer of the 23 Marina to let them get the title from The Torch, and then The Princess gets completed and get the title too?

or finish Elite Residence first, then 23Marina, and afterwards Princess in order to claim the title four times in a row within one block...

Well, that's Dubai I guess.

Who cares for all those records? Heck, just build aesthetically appealing and demanded buildings, instead of panting behind every next record.
It doesn't make Dubai a better place in any way whatsoever.

Who cares? The people visiting this thread, I suppose.

If titles and records don't matter at all, why do people come to Berlin stadium to see Usain Bolt become the fastes man alive, and the Spanish go crazy after winning over the Dutch? Does it make them better in any way whatsoever?

If aesthetically appealing and demanding was everything, then why don't we all just go to figure skating, ballett, or Cirque de Soleil instead of watching Sebastian Vettel or Cadel Evans on TV?

After all, this thread is called 'World's NEXT Tallest Residential Tower - the race is on!'. Titles are the main theme here.... but who cares.

By the way, I remember how proud we were in Germany for having the tallest building in Europe... Jetzt auf Platz 159. Aber sooo ästhetisch und anspruchsvoll, da kann das Pentominium bautechnisch abstinken.

I am rather talking about building heights records. They don't matter all that much anymore.
And they especially shouldn't for Dubai, since it became obvious the demand isn't there. The city got its attention drawn anyway.

Abu Dhabi is doing far better in this regard, with projects like Masdar City. And an overall better concept that adresses demand and innovation, rather than record-hunting and glitter.

But I won't complain after all, if they want to have the tallest residential tower in the world 3-4 times in a row, that's fine. In the end, many European companies make some profit there. Though I still think it's a waste of resources, money and know-how.

Masdar City IS the epithome of glitter and attention seeking. There is nothing sustainable about the project. It's just a complying to the loons who think they are saving the World one solar panel at the time.

Gee, the solar panels are so innefective and weather conditions dependant (sand/dust/humidity covering), that is more economical to employ an army of cleaners to manually clean them everyday (or twice a day)

I'm not a friend of today's solar panel power either. It's way too ineffective for now. And they're highly subsidizing this crap in Germany. But that's not the point.
Masdar City is looking for several other fields of urban innovation. Despite offering university facilities, new ways of urban transport & space etc. That's an element you hardly get to see Dubai coming up with. That's at least the impression you get from a European perspective.

Anyway, we're slightly offtopic now. If you want to, we could continue the discussion here.

Masdar City is just a dome, don't buy into the marketing crap. The only reason they came with the idea was for the bragging rights to get the HQ of IRENA www.irena.org in the city.

Too late. Everyone here's fallen for Abu Dhabi already, at the latest since it "bailouted" Dubai.
Everything's moving fast today. One day you're the bright shining and glittering hero, next day everyone's flushing you down the toilet. That's life.

Except that it's not happening ... I mean, for you and some people here, Dubai has never been anywhere else but inside the toilet

Lol. I had to pay Solidaritätszuschlag tax in Baden Württemberg bailing out Mecklenburg. Wasn't so funny though.

Let's head to the topic again.

I know. The girls here on the pools and beaches in Dubai are also pretty nice, I was surpised -- good fitness culture here, but not quite as nice as Ostsee girls.
