Even though Earthquakes is a bad name. Sorry. (Yes, natural disasters and anything else that tries to sound scary tend to come off as silly instead.)

id like to take a page out of mr. websters book, (not literally though) and take a european tradition and tweak it until it is uniquely american. i say we use the old acronym format but instead of FC or SC we use SA or SO for soccer association or organization.

It'd probably sound bad if it was brought up now, but it dates back to 1974. I mean, how dumb is the name Red Sox? Nobody questions it, though, because it's old. Arena football names from the '90s make better targets.

You should shorten it to just the Quakes. It wouldn't sound so cheesy.

It is shortened to Quakes when spoken colloquially. Officially, "Earthquakes" sounds better. Plus, the shield would be missing something without the full name. They didn't have it as nice as the Sounders do, being given a decent crest way back when. The Sounders logo is still great, just like the name. Same goes for the Timbers. The Whitecaps were stupid to update theirs, as it looks quite childish. At least they kept the name.

They reverted back to it after their stint in the 80's and 90's as the 86ers.

Astroturf soccer and minor league soccer. No thanks. Let's bury our minor league past and pick a soccer name, not a cheesy American minor league name. Enough Kansas City Wiz(ards), Seattle Sounders. Let's get some classy club names!

And the name is associated with the NASL team, with which it originated, not the minor leagues.
The dead, astroturf league. Let's bury that too.

SFC!

No, I wanted the eurosnob name. I have been on the SFC bandwagon from the start.

But the name sucks. The colors too. If they want to keep a link, have "Sounders" be the nickname, and have Seattle FC be the official name. The minor league fans can still call them the Sounders and everyone else can call the club SFC.

It seems like Sounders FC might win

On April 7, 2008 at 11:00 AM the club will reveal the winner live at www.MLSinSeattle.com.

"Seattle Sounders" voters will be encouraged to note that First and Goal, operators of Qwest Field, registered the website addresses SeattleSoundersFC.net, SoundersFC.net and SoundersFC.com on March 31st.(Earlier all of the ballot's printed choices were registered with the .net ending.)

Which is a pretty great name, if it turns out to be the official winner

Although I would have wished to see Seattle Soccer Club "SSC" win

What sucks about it? The S on the end?

And get off the whole "minor league" kick. It's stupid. The Seattle Sounders of the A-League/USL existed before MLS. They were not founded or even re-established as a minor league operation. They merely existed in a league that lost out on FIFA-sanctioned first division status. The club never supplied "major league" teams with players or anything. It even defeated a few MLS sides in USOC matches.

The whole name, for a sports team. What the heck is a Sounder anyway? If Seattle started with another letter, we would probably have some other silly name for that astroturf/minor league team.

It's real. Seattle Sounders = minor league; dead league with astroturf. I didn't care much for that, I don't care for the name, the colors, the pathetic rotation of stadiums, etc. It is time for a new era of soccer in Seattle; the major league era.

What's wrong with SFC? You minorleague fans can still give them the Sounders nickname and all of the rest of us can use the more classy SFC name.

A person living around the Sound?

Down-to-earth and unpretentious enough, I'd say.

It is kinda funny to be asking what a Sounder is when it happens to be your screen name.

Sure you can call them a minor league team if you want. They were still better than the 2 MLS teams they beat last year.

It's Seattle Sounders FC. They should bump the FC back to behind Seattle. The logo blows as does the shade of green they are using. So sad. I was hoping for something more classy.
