He told me a fact that never made it into the movie is that he never had a pilot license and he actually taught himself how to fly!!!! He also said that he heard that Mark Wahlberg was cast as Jon while DiCaprio might be playing him, he said this with a smile on his face like he thought the whole thing was hilarious.

He says he gets recognized all the time now and really seems to get a kick out it!

I shook his hand and told him I envied his life!!! I even whispered to the teller... Do you know who that is? And she was like "yeah it's really him he comes in all the time, he's a really cool guy"

Anyway I was blown away cause I was just talking about this movie yesterday!
Leo is gonna play him? How crazy. If that happens I will have met two real life people he has acted as. I also met Frank Abignail Jr. a couple of years ago. These people are way more intersesting than any actors.

Let's if I can remember some Miami movies:

Goldfinger
Casino Royale
Tony Rome
Lady in Cement
True Lies
The Specialist
Ace Ventura
Transporter 2 (which featured a couple of seconds inside the Omni)
The Crew
Get Shorty
Scarface
Just Cause (that's the Sean Connery one from 1995)
Bad Boys
Bad Boys II

I know I'm forgetting a few. I'd love to buy them all. I used to take Miami for granted...until I moved to Central Florida. Yeeeech! I love Miami.

Thanks! I couldn't thiink of that most recent Sean Connery one to save my life. But there is one Denzel Washington did on South Beach a while back that I just can't think of. Was that Devil in a Blue Dress?

Can't leave "Clambake" out of the equation. Yes, it's Elvis at his worst (he sings to a garbage can in one scene and has a song about glue in another)...Yes, the dialog and plot are excruciatingly bad...Yes, parts of it were filmed in California, leading to hilarious scenes of mountains and oil derricks apparently being adjacent to the Julia Tuttle Causeway...BUT it shows Miami in all its 1960s wacky glory including many shots from Marine Stadium before it became a wreck and has Elvis and Co. staying at the magical "Ocean Shores" Hotel where the bar staff wears fezzes and bikinis. My kinda joint.

Miami Becomes A Part Of Bollywood's Landscape

MIAMI (CBS4) ― Hollywood blockbusters are no strangers to South Florida, with recent flicks such as Miami Vice, Too Fast Too Furious and Bad Boys showcasing our sunshine and views, but the real rising star in our area currently appears to be Bollywood films.

Involving singing in Hindi, dancing, and love scenes that don't include kissing, Bollywood is India's answer to Hollywood. It just wrapped its first movie shoot in Miami, working out of a small office at the Doubletree Hotel, in Downtown Miami.

"It was good to come into a town with this kind of blue ocean, and beautiful people and beautiful landscape," said producer Prashant Shah.

Shah admits though that state cash incentives help make Florida an appealing place to shoot.

"It's like trying to go to dinner and suddenly they give you a little dessert at no charge, you always go back to that restaurant," said Shah.

But the State legislature is slashing Florida's film subsidies budget by $25 million, potentially hurting our movie industry.

"I think it's pathetic the state doesn't see the economic value this has short term and long term to the growth of our state," said Miami Mayor Manny Diaz.

That's why Diaz says he's working had to form close ties with Bollywood. The goal is to create jobs and bring more tourists, and the mayor believes the folks from India's film industry won't focus solely on what the state can do for them.

The next India-Miami connection could come as early as June 2009. The city is in talks with the organizers of India's version of the academy awards, to hold the big event here in Miami.

That would really be something!

Miami
West Palm

Fort Lauderdale
Boca
Weston
Hollywood
Sunny Isles
South Beach

They're everywhere! Be warned, though: the movie is quite the tear-jerker. Especially for dog lovers.
Wow! Thanks for the review!

I saw it yesterday as well, and even if they were all over the place, they did a good job of showing Miami in a positive light.

Oh god, don't remind anyone here about that. For me what happened with the Latin Grammy represents one of the biggest problems we have down here. That sort of closed mindless point of view were even music can be politicized.

As for the MTV music awards it was going on for the 2nd time in a roll and there was even talk that Miami might be the home from now on for it. And then the 2005 hurricane season came with Katrina......and well you can guess the rest.

That's good because Marley & Me was number one at the North American box office this weekend. I saw The Curious Case of Benjamin Button though, which I thought could have been better edited, but a well-done if strange movie.
