thank you H123. I forgot the caption. this is the Alaska Highway looking west near Rancheria Falls in British Columbia.
Interesting, the highway dips back into BC for about 50 miles in this area. There is no road connection with BC nearby and I believe it is maintained, although in BC, by the Yukon Highway Authority.

Better keep this under wraps. Radi will have a fit

This must surely be the shiniest motorway yet seen on this forum....and the asphalt.....so dark and the markings are like neon....

The Cape Town area has plenty - one of the most well known being this nasty stretch of road (M6, Chapman's Peak Drive).

Then, there's Bain's Kloof Pass, which was the original way of getting from Cape Town into the interior. It's now a tourist route only.

The current route from Cape Town into the interior is the N1 national road. It cuts out the hectic mountainous bits by tunnelling under them - but it also has this section not far away:

Then, if you're doing the Durban-Johannesburg road trip along the N3, you'll hit Van Reenen's Pass. (Yes, I have a thing for mountain passes!)

And if you want some serious mountains - Champagne Castle, not too far away. The photo does not do this area justice, trust me.

I've saved my favourite one for last: the N2 in the Tsitsikamma area (between Plettenberg Bay and Jeffrey's Bay).

When you drive northbound in A14, in Southern Italy region of Abruzzo, at one point you take a turn and find yourself a scenery like this:

La Majella mountains, almost 50km away...

I happen to know approximately where this is, and I know exactly how to get there.

My one problem with the Blue Ridge Parkway is that the guardrails appear to be built to make sure you're upside down when you hit the ground if you run off the road. This rock wall isn't common, more common is wooden, and metal is never used on this road except for signage and a handful of bridges.
