It has already become clear that not much thinking ever happens in Dubai.

Nakheel claims Kleindienst is in breech of contract: Kleindienst plans to countersue, claiming the master developer was insolvent.

by Shane McGinley on Apr 4, 2012

The master developer behind Dubai’s ‘The World’ project did not receive regulatory approval to construct the man-made islands and has been unable to complete the project because the firm is insolvent, one of the development’s largest owners said during the first hearing of a $199m legal battle this week.

This is going to take forever to complete. Possibly another 20 years?

Indeed, this is going to take many years to complete, Polli. If ever? It's a massive undertaking any way you look at it. Having said that, people have short memories.

Dubai's Nakheel was planning a luxury hotel on its manmade The World development alongside South African hotel operator Kerzner International, but scrapped the project due to the 2008 property crisis, CW sister publication Arabian Business has learnt.

Launched in 2007, the hotel project was to be built on Coral Island, a luxury resort covering 73ha in the North American region of The World.

IOW, no islands and the Gulf.

Things don't just stay put, and shiny, and new unless you pay someone or something for upkeep.

Maybe this will come to fruition in 25 years, but someone has to buy all the islands, and put something on them, and want it to stay put, and pay for upkeep. No buyers, no upkeep.
