It's when we can compare the size of the buildings with some people beside it that we can really see as huge it is

I know that this awesome new Gremio's stadium was not chosen for hosting the 2014 world cup. Porto Alegre will host the world cup matches in the Inter's Beira-Rio stadium. Has the choice been made for the bigger dimension of the second one?
I presume that this choice will become another point of the Gre-Nal rivalry.

In fact, the Gremio Stadium will be bigger than Beira-Rio. Officially, it is said that the Beira Rio will host the World Cup because in 2009, when the venues were selected, Gremio's Stadium was nothing more than a project, while the Beira-Rio was already built and only needed minor improvements. But now, when we see that one stadium is 50% completed and the other hasn't even begun to be refurbished, a lot of people (specially Gremio fans, obviously) started to ask if there was a bias towards Beira-Rio in 2009 from the Local Comitee.

Very good.

Besides the Grêmio Arena be bigger than beira rio, it is a new and modern stadium.

Beira Rio is 42 years old, and have all the common problems to this age stage.

Even worse, the Grêmio Arena is strategically located, is adjacent to the airport, train station and an access to freeway (fastest and largest road to enter the city).

While Beira Rio is at the opposite point in the city, necessitating a trip around a city with narrow streets and chaotic transit to reach the stadium. 40 or 50 minutes.

In short, it is a shame and a waste of public resources the decision to make the WC in beira rio.

I believe everybody can understand that since it´s Brazil we´re talking about.

Looking at those pictures, seeing the quick growth of the Arena, it's kind difficult to find reasons to play the WC in the Beira Rio stadium, the only one I can see is POLITICS.

But the Grêmio is building it for its fans, not to "win" the "Who has the biggest/newest/better stadium" competition.

So... does anyone know how the latest council visit was? I know it was yesterday, and that we would have some 'exclusive news' or something.

Nothing yet in SSC ...

Without the thread of the Arena will be more difficult to know the news more quickly.

But there is something about the visit on the official website of Arena.

6th floor VIP boxes - for press only;
Height of the stands - 36m
Height of the pitch - 3,5m???
Blueprints are not disclosed because OAS does not allow.

Glênio Mello posted some 50-60 photos of the visit at Orkut. I will try to post them here later.

Indeed... hopefully they'll unlock that thread soon.

One day you'll have your blueprints, mate (hopefully before the construction is over). Hehehehe

And what do you mean by the height of the pitch being 3.5m?

I think we should continue posting comments here in this thread. Actually I guess is the best way to disclose the Arena for everyone. Then when things settle down to another thread can be released smoothly and reach the record of 10 000 posts.
