Very luscious pics teh!
The green canopy is truly lovely...in many ways, the LTA road planning and NParks has provided well for making walking along the street like a walk in the park, even if you're not actually in a park

If not for all these big trees for shading, the average temperature would have been a few degree higher.

Jungle City
Sometimes Singapore looks more like a Jungle City than a Garden City.

only areas that started developments in the 1970s and 80s or even earlier have such huge greeneries... areas such as sengkang and tampines are somewhat abit lacking in huge green tress...

Somehow i agree with teh. It looks more like a jungle city. But then these trees must be more than 50 years old. imagine how old these trees can be.

Singapore Botanic Gardens
In 1822, Singapore's original botanic garden was started at Fort Canning by Sir Stamford Raffles. After it lost funding, the present Botanic Garden came into being in 1859 thanks to the hard work of a horticulture society; it was later turned over to the government for preservation. More than just a garden, this space occupied an important place in the region's economic development when "Mad" Henry Ridley, one of the garden's directors, imported Brazilian rubber tree seedlings from Great Britain. He devised improved latex-trapping methods and led the campaign to convince reluctant coffee growers to switch plantation crops. The garden also pioneered orchid hybridization, breeding a number of internationally acclaimed varieties. _________________________________________ http://travel-to-singapore.blogspot.com/ |

![]() would have been better if the trees are grown to create a green tunnel.
