Well, looks like the A-340-200 (which has the range to do AMM-LAX non-stop) is not coming back or is going in for heavy checks (Victorville Aerospace maybe?)

I just saw the RJ advertisement in the local paper today which basically says:

Take advantage and fly with us direct to Los Angeles non-stop and for one flight only on 20.July.2009. Departing Monday from Amman at 2:00 and arriving Los Angeles at 8:00. Make sure you book your return flight from New York or Chicago on RJ to Amman direct.

Out of curiosity, I called the RJ reservation and inquired. The employee didn't know what the deal is with this flight except that it is on his system and bookable. So not much help there

If u dont know who is he, then he is the man that managed to put Rj into one of the Global Alliance which is... One World with other world class airline like British Airways, Japan Airlines or Qantas in Australia. The RJ became very successful airline with high profit during his post as a CEO

RJ achieves JD7.7m net profits for the first half of the year

The Royal Jordanian Board of Directors chaired by Nasser Lozi approved in its July 29, 2009, session the financial results for the first half of 2009.

RJ, the oneworld member, achieved net profits of around JD7.7m, against JD4m in net losses incurred during the same period of last year.

The gross profit reached around JD19m, against an operational loss of around JD3m for the comparison period.

Lozi expressed satisfaction with RJ's ability to achieve positive results despite the challenges the air transport industry has been facing over the last six months, foremost among them the global economic crisis, which had a great impact on the traffic of passengers and cargo over the world.

The revenues went down to JD274m, from JD314m that the airline attained in the first half of last year, marking a 12.7% decrease over last year.

RJ President/CEO Samer Majali said the profits came as a result of the decrease -19.6% in the operational costs of the company in the first six months of this year, exceeding the decline in revenues.

The cost control policy succeeded due to great efforts exerted in managing the offered aircraft seats, which decreased by 7%, to the efficient operation of the newly manufactured, economically operational aircraft that were added to the fleet in the past few years, and to the dramatic decrease in fuel prices.

He also pointed out that the decline in revenues in the first half of 2009 came as a result of the 6% decrease in the number of passengers aboard RJ aircraft and in the uplifted cargo, which went down by 33%.

Majali said that as a result of the lower fuel prices and the competition in the region, the airline reduced ticket fares leading to a decline in passenger yield by 9% and cargo yield by 10%.

He added that most of the company's operational indicators saw a drop during the aforementioned period, when the seat factor went down to 65 points this year, compared to the same period last year, which saw 71 points.

Majali said that the aviation sector, in general, and RJ, in particular, is facing big challenges, represented by sharp competition among the regional airlines and an increased number of aircraft seats, which is bound to result in lower ticket prices and therefore impact the company revenues.

However, he expressed optimism that RJ will achieve positive results at the end of the year and stressed that it is continuing its marketing efforts to attract more passengers at a time the company is witnessing a remarkable growth of passenger traffic on all its sectors this summer.

This year RJ added two new routes to its network; to Brussels and Benghazi. It also increased the frequency of daily flights to many of its regional destinations, like Beirut, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Cairo, Jeddah, Aleppo and others.

Hussein Dabbas, president and chief executive of Royal Jordanian, succeeds Samer Majali

Royal Jordanian Board of Directors, chaired by Nasser Lozi, appointed in its July 29, 2009, session Hussein Dabbas president and chief executive officer of Royal Jordanian Airline, effective August 1, 2009, succeeding engineer Samer Majali who stepped down from Royal Jordanian, starting July 31, to become chief executive of Gulf Air, based in Bahrain
.

Lozi stressed that electing Dabbas, who is already a member of the RJ family and an expert in the civil aviation and the air transport industry, reflects the board's keenness to continue the company's strategy that targets development and comprehensive progress, followed ever since Majali took over the presidency of the airline in 2001.

During Majali's tenure as president/CEO, the airline witnessed continuous success when it comes to fleet modernization, route network, IT systems that improved services offered passengers and facilitated travel through Jordanian and international airports.

He said that the board of directors and RJ employees were confident that Dabbas' capability and wide practical and professional knowledge will help RJ achieve its goals and soar to new heights, enabling the airline to face the difficult times that the global economy is going through. Lozi pointed to the distinguished position RJ enjoys among international airlines who saw it fit to work side by side under the oneworld airline alliance.

Lozi extended to Dabbas his and the board's wishes of success in managing the national carrier of Jordan, emphasizing on the board's unconditional support to him, in the quest to attain the goals of the airline in the coming period.

He also expressed his heartfelt gratitude and thanks to Majali, for the fruitful, valuable efforts he exerted while president, during which RJ saw a real quantitative leap, placing RJ in the position it holds in the air transport industry.

Dabbas joined Royal Jordanian in 1979. He holds a master's degree in international management and marketing from Thunderbird School of Global Management, Arizona, and a bachelor of science in business administration from the University of San Francisco, California, USA.

Dabbas held several positions at RJ, particularly in the commercial and marketing sector, the last being vice president of marketing, sales and services, since 2005. He was head of the Marketing and Sales Department between 2001 and 2005, and assistant vice president for Passengers Sales and Marketing, between 1996 and 1999.

Between 1992 and 1996, Dabbas held the position of the general manager for the United States operation based in New York, and assistant vice president, marketing between 1989 and 1992.

Dabbas is board member of the Jordan Tourism Board, a member of the IATA Industry Affairs Committee, the RJ representative at the Arab Air Carriers Organization (AACO) commercial committee and the RJ representative at the oneworld commercial committee OMC. He is also a board member of Royal Wings charter airline, and head of the management committee of Royal Tours.

Dabbas was born in Amman in 1955. He is married with two children.

Royal Jordanian and S7 sign code share agreement

Royal Jordanian and Siberia airlines (S7), the largest domestic airlines in Russia, signed a unilateral Free Sale Code-share Agreement, where S7 will place its code on RJ flights operated on Amman-Domodedovo-Amman sector.

The agreement is to be implemented as of September 15, 2009.

RJ President/CEO Hussein Dabbas said:

"This is the first code-share agreement between S7 and a oneworld member since S7 was voted on board the alliance as a member elect, to join in 2010."

"RJ will operate Airbus A320s on this route, whereas the agreement applies on all types of aircraft operated by RJ on this sector," he added.

"The code-share agreement between RJ and S7 is a free flow agreement whereby S7 may sell as many seats on each Amman-Domodedovo-Amman flight as RJ, with no limitation to the number of seats sold by S7," he added.

Under the agreement, Royal Jordanian will operate three flights a week - on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays. Departure from Amman is scheduled at 10:45 and from Moscow Domodedovo at 16:35, local time.

Dabbas said that the two companies are planning to expand this code-share agreement in the near future, from unilateral to bilateral, once S7 gets necessary approvals on Moscow-St. Petersburg sector; RJ will also place its code on this sector.

This will offer new opportunities for passengers and boost the tourism, and it will serve the traffic of businessmen and students between Jordan and Russia.

S7, which was selected as a candidate to join the oneworld global alliance in May 2009, is now actively conducting work to integrate its operations and processes with other members of the alliance, in order to obtain full membership next year.

oneworld airlines to move to Barcelona’s new Terminal 1 in September

All airline members of the oneworld® alliance serving Barcelona’s El Prat airport are to transfer their operations into its new Terminal 1 with effect from 9 September.
Five of the alliance’s carriers serve the airport - Iberia along with its affiliate Iberia Regional Air Nostrum, American Airlines, British Airways, Finnair and Royal Jordanian.

Iberia’s value-based associate, Vueling, which is not part of oneworld, is also moving to Terminal 1 at the same time.

oneworld Vice-President Customer Experience and Airports Robert Antoniuk said: “oneworld’s airports strategy is to bring the operations of its member airlines together wherever it makes sense and where opportunities allow. The opening of this magnificent new facility at Iberia’s Group second home Barcelona provide just the ideal chance to do just that.”

The alliance’s airlines will have adjoining check-in desks among the terminal’s total of 166.

Details of lounge arrangements for premium passengers will be announced nearer to the date of the move.

With 101 boarding gates, 43 air bridges and more than a hundred shops, bars and restaurants, the terminal will be able to handle 30 million passengers a year, almost doubling the airport’s capacity.

To make it as environmentally friendly as possible, it has nearly 700 solar panels to generate power and completely automated regulation of its interior lighting.

September’s move follows the transfer of all oneworld member airlines’ seven airlines into the new EUR 6 billion Terminal 4 at Iberia’s main Madrid home in February 2006 and comes as the alliance’s eight on-line carriers at its biggest European hub, London Heathrow, complete later in the coming months their consolidation from across all five terminals into just two.

Royal Jordanian offers discount on companion crown class ticket in October

Royal Jordanian, the oneworld member, offers its passengers traveling with a companion on business class (Crown), between Amman and the Far East, Europe & USA, the opportunity to get their companion's ticket with half price.

The offer is valid only for travel between October 1 and 31, 2009.

This promotion comes in the frame of a marketing plan the company is applying since the beginning of this year that included a series of promotional campaigns and special offers on tickets to several destinations on RJ's network, the latest of which was (Get to Know Your World) Competition with 12 thousands contestants. The competition granted the winners along with their companions, free tickets to famous cities around the world.

The purpose of this promotion, considering that it is valid for a limited period, is to motivate travel to these international destinations in certain time of the year, and to encourage passengers to travel onboard RJ and enjoy the privileges and services provided to them.

The airline recently inaugurated its new business class lounge (Crown Lounge) at Queen Alia International Airport, in line with the company's continuous efforts to improve and develop its air and ground services over the last few years and particularly after completing the fleet modernization plan.

If you are travelling in the next month, take advantage of this great offer.
