I find the cleanliness of the inner cities amazing. I am South African and havent lived there for a few years but I always remembered certian cities having a lot of garbage around, seems crime and grime or at least one of them is on the way out and now its time to get rid of the other one

Nope! A lot of people seem to think the Garden Route is in the Eastern Cape... the Western Cape retains all the "pretty" and "genteel" places! The provincial border is about 50km east of Plettenberg Bay at the Bloukrans River Bridge. The entire Garden Route, except the eastern Tsitsikamma region is in the Western Cape.
