PANAMA DIAMOND EXCHANGE TOWER
50 fl | PRO

Headquarters Panama Diamond Exchange

Panama is the first and only country in Latin America that will include a bag of diamonds. Representatives of the Panama Diamond Exchange (PDE) announced the launch of the project that will allow trade between merchants and diamond jewelery in the region and the world.

With the choice of Panama, this would be the diamond exchange number 28 in the world selected by the World Federation of Diamond Bourses, which is made up of countries like the Netherlands, United States, Japan, Israel and UAE.

With the creation of the PDE is expected to bring entrepreneurs who sell diamonds and other precious stones to Latin America to meet the demands of an expanding market.

The project includes the construction of an office building, which is expected to be ready in 2010 -, which will be located in Costa del Este, in an area of 7000 meters square.

Haviv Aviad, executive director of the PDE, a request that they are doing the government is that the bag can be under the same terms and conditions of a company in the free zone, but not located in Columbus. That is, they have benefits such as 0% on export gains tax, 0% tariffs and quotas on imports and exports, 0% tax on turnover and migration facilities for foreign executives.

Panama currently has 21 confirmed Skyscrapers, 3 more suspected Skyscrapers (based on floor height) and 2 more in the pipeline (Evolution and Bella Vista) for a total of 26 Skyscrapers. If Central Tower and Megapolis materialize that would be 28. That said, Panamanian projects are oftentimes unknown until just before construction begins when the developer will reach out to the media or when the construction site is cordoned off. That explains the dearth of proposals.

I do wish there weren't so many question marks around the heights of buildings but that's Latin America bookkeeping for you.

I agree. I'll try to update more. 2014 is probably going to be a slow year as well for Panama in terms of Skyscrapers. There will be a lot more 20-30 story infill, 100m apartments and such but there has been a boom in suburban development so the 250m residentials we were accustomed to is probably slim outside of Costa del Este. The city is, rightfully, investing in infrastructure so there's a myriad of multi-billion dollar transportation projects that I'll post about later.

Will expand capacity to 20,000,000 passengers annually.

I will have to post a Part 2 to this list at some point. This covers most of the major projects but I'm missing a ton of other projects: Panama Pacifico, Ocean Reef Islands, Cinta Costera 4, Punta Sur, Costa del Este, 6 Megamalls, Amador Master Plan, Fourth Bridge over Panama Canal, Road Overhaul Master Plan, City Beautification Planning, New Universities, etc.

PS: Panama's economy grew at 8.3% (Update: 8.4%) this year (and that was terribly low according to the press). Panama grew 10.7% in 2012 and 10.8% in 2011. With growth projected to remain in the 8-9% range throughout 2014, there's good chances the number of megaprojects announced or breaking ground will accelerate this upcoming year (It's a presidential year after all)

This, in total, is about $14,000,000,000,000 or ~40% of Panamanian GDP

well, little architecture and infrastructures can be much more interesting than big towers, so no problem

And there's so much more around the bend! Before 2000, Panama City was in its nascent child stage (chaotic, naive, messy, unorganized, powerless). From 2000 to 2010 Panama City entered puberty. It got lots of pimples (ugly apartment blocks) and change was hard (insane traffic, rising inequality, etc.) but by the end it had transformed into a more confident, mature place. Since 2010 I think Panama City is entering adulthood. A City of Arts? Funding for operas? Historic preservation? Parks? Mass transit? Social Security? Increases in minimum wage? Increasing health standards? If you know Latin America you know these aren't the priority items for cities. There's still a lot of work to do though, especially for the 50% of Panamanians who don't live in the Panama City metro area.

Here's a good thread for seeing the change in Panama City at street-level, especially the renaissance going on in the Casco Viejo/Old Town. I know SSC is all about skyscrapers but while Panama has a ton of those, the most drastic changes have been at ground level: http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=1632517

Cinta Costera 3 update!
