Great shots, thank you! Cologne seems to be improving a lot from its former image.

Nice ones. Those new "harbor cranes" look pretty good.

Colognes high rises are really ugly. Seriously.

Wow that last set of pics is fantastic! Those are the best pics I've ever seen of Cologne. I've always thought of Cologne as very fun and happening, but visually ugly. These pics show there are actually attractive streets there and more beautiful older buildings than I realized.

Before the war, Cologne was one of the most beautiful cities in Germany and you are right that most beautiful buildings destroyed during WWII have been replaced by faceless postwar buildings. Luckily, some buildlings have survived/rebuilt (as you can see in the pictures) - not least the dozen romanic churches, all built in the 12th century. Here is a link with an interactive map:
http://www.romanische-kirchen-koeln.de/kirchen.html

There is a new masterplan under development to beautify Cologne - particularly downtown. This masterplan is developed by Albert Speer & Partner. With time, I could imagine some reconstructions also in Cologne - as well as a lot of renovations and replacements - and of course modern architecture.
