I know that. I was wondering what is downtown Seattle's largest employer since WAMU isn't the biggest employer anymore. How many workers do Pemco Insurance have right now?

This probably won't surprise anyone, but the largest employer in the city of Seattle is the University of Washington (28,000+).

That sounds around right. I was talking about downtown Seattle alone.

Even at that, only 4,000 of the almost 18,000 employees at Amazon work here in Seattle. We hire wherever labor is cheap.

That is good number of workers. Hope they will hire more when they moves to South Lake Union and economy improves.

Does anyone know why that middle tower crane has the "hump" near the cab (whereas the others don't really), or if that kind of crane is specifically needed for anything on this project?

I would imagine that gives it more load carrying capacity. Perhaps they need it for some heavy lifting?

Thanks, BoulderGrad! I never seen most of renderings before. I really like phase 2 building textures a lot. The rest of it remind me of Amegen headquarter campus in Thousands Oaks, California.

Phases 4 and 5 are pretty cool.

So are they only doing 1 and 2 now?

Crane #4 going up today on the Amazon campus. This is for the 1100 Republican Building (Phase #2). Digging continues where the Phase #3 and #4 buildings are underway. Demolition on existing structures where the final Phase #5 should begin later this Spring.

Here's another article that includes a map of the buildings in case anyone's forgot. It appears that the final building (11 story beast) is now delayed ground-breaking until next spring. IT would be the last of the 11 and was originally slated to break ground this October. What's 6 months in THIS market?!
