Sounds like we'll have construction starting in 2013 on the first phase.

So maybe they do plan to exercise their option on more of the Clise land...

Amazon buys more land near campus
By JOURNAL STAFF
SEATTLE — Amazon.com has purchased a small piece of land near its proposed three-block campus in the Denny Triangle, property records show.

Amazon bought the land for $4.6 million from M L Mathieu Properties LLC, which lists Georgeann Blatterman as manager. The land, at 2210 Seventh Avenue, is part of a 13,000-square-foot parking lot in between the Hurricane Cafe and a Budget Rental Car office.

Amazon has more options:

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/03/07/re...ttle.html?_r=0

Quote:
Amazon plans to double that figure in coming years, by building three office buildings of one million square feet each at a cost of $600 million. Last month the company made a deal with Clise Properties, Seattle’s largest downtown landowner, to buy three contiguous blocks, or about five acres, near downtown. Amazon would not comment for this article.

The property is part of a 13-acre parcel that Clise, a family investment company, would prefer not to break into smaller pieces. “They have options to purchase additional significant land,” said Alfred Clise, the chairman and chief executive of Clise Properties, “and we are hoping and expecting that that will happen.”

Oh BRING IT. YES. But lets hope they'd build something iconic.

I'm noticing that colored illumination is finally en vogue in Seattle now (ferris wheel, moving lights on Century Link Field, Olive 8, Aspira, etc). At least have lots of that.

Now would be a critical time for Cornish College to raise the funds to build its own permanent dormitories. They're at risk of being hemmed in to their current footprint and losing the motels they're currently renting.

Land sale inked! "Amazon has indicated it plans to start construction next year on the first block, between Sixth and Seventh avenues and Virginia and Lenora streets." Drove by and noticed one block (with the KitKat Theatre) fenced off but not that 1st to be constructed.

Clise gets $207M for sitting on 3 blocks for decades. Goddamnit why weren't my ancestors patient landowners.

Demolition pictures to follow.

Excellent. This is how things should be done. It benefits nobody to let unused land sit around.

ROI's in the corporate world are often on the order of 3-5 years. If you let your land sit around for a year doing nothing, that's a significant amount of money that could have been working for you sitting in a land-based bank account instead.
